10-12 city is pretty bad. I do better than that in the city with my 2.5 gen. But 19 is the best I have ever gotten on the highway…

Just want to make it clear, I can get 21 MPG highway only if I drive around 60mph. I tried that and that's how I know. Typically I go 75mph and then it drops down to 17-18 MPG.

I drove over 3 big ass mountain passes today in BC, Vancouver to Kelowna , 21 MPG at 80-85 MPH for 4 hours .....was 90 % cruising so once I got it rolling I wasn't slowed at all because its a 4-6 lane highway, and I was by myself . I do know if I drive normally ( wife's in the vehicle) that would be better because I would drive slower because I know what would happen LOL

Glad to hear you're getting the same mpg. I kept thinking that my truck has an issue since it's getting such abismal 10-12 city mpg - same as was my 10 year old Ram v8

Yes, I've only hit 10k miles today. Air filters are new and I don't drive in dusty areas

But I have to add that I have bigger and heavier tires on mine. My all time average (7 months of owning) on fuelly shows 15MPG which after adjusting to the tire size comes up to 16MPG

you must drive short distances, not warmed up and boost like a mojo or something, and idle a lot, lol.

10-12 is like my 2016 5.7, total pig

Weirdly, I have had mine for a year , some people get great milage and others not. Could be driving styles and terrain altering the results. When I was fully stock at 60 MPH I could get 28 MPG continuously , upped the tires ( small change but bigger and heavier ) and that dropped to 26 MPG. IF I drive like a mad man at 85 MPH I am in the 23 range,

I don't understand it. Some get 13, others low 20's, and a few in the 28 range.

Me....I am in Canada and there isn't a flat road anywhere near me

New new or 10k miles new? I’d change them if they have 10k miles on them.

No matter what I've tried, my city driving doesn't give me more than 12-13mpg if I drive slow.

If I drive normal in the city, I get about 10-12mpg. I don't accelerate rapidly at all, always smoothy and stay within traffic. My drive to the office is about 30 minutes through San Francisco with lots of traffic lights and stop signs (but usually no traffic) . I don't use engine auto shutoff feature. And we do have some hills along my drive.

I do warm up the truck, but that isn't counted by the Per Trip mpg counter as truck shuts off when I open the door after using remote start.

So yeah... Highway mpg is great but my city mpg is not. As if something is broken...

Ah yeah, probably just all that stop and go…the auto stop-start might not be a bad idea in your situation, haha.

How is the engine braking on the third gen?
I use engine braking a lot around town and in slow + go traffic I'm positive it helps mpg on my 2nd gen

I've been using Eco mode and Normal mode in the city driving with about the same mpg results.

I've been driving for 20+ years and consider myself experienced driver. Yes I coast to stop stop signs, try to brake less. Rpms don't usually go above 2k. I do drive faster than the speed limit but generally accelerate to it slowly.

Just to add... I did test drive Tundra hybrid around the same city route and it gave me about 21mpg vs 12mpg I've been getting in my non hybrid... Hybrid kept driving on electrical mode quite often and shutting off engine all the time when coasting...

Ive tried using auto start stop but most traffic lights are very quick... Under 10-15 seconds wait so it seems to me that it'll not be that helpful... And irritates me for unnecessary engine restarts... Even though I know it's not harmful..

Hybrid shut off while coasting and driving slowly in traffic... That helped the most I think

I’ve only had mine about 10 days it’s a 22 Trd with the long bed. I seem to be getting 12-13 in town maybe 18 on the highway at 75-80 mph.

Looking for some more experienced opinions here….

It has 285/60/20. OD 33 on it with no lift…. How much is that really hurting? a little wider and taller than OEM.

Will a bed cover improve mileage much?

Little extra weight hurts more than height especially when it is on rotating mass. Look up weight differences in those tires coupled with wider and taller makes a big difference.

Exactly......stated MPG is the bare bones truck with minimal fluids, minimal weight, ( remove the floor matts ) , a 100 lbs driver , on a track that is flat for optimal results.

My truck (hybrid) at 60-65 mph I can achieve 28 mpg in the area I live at in BC......hills but also flats. I changed tires and tossed 2 mph there. Did a 6 hour roady over mountain passes at 80-85 MPH and lost another 5 MPG. I can say this truck kicks the shit out of my 2012 Platinum. Have never looked back

averaging 13.5 mpg mixed city/highway. Was getting 20-21 mpg same commute in an f150 v8. Too many people defending poor mpg here- pretty sure i can get the same economy in a trx.

I haven't reset the mpg meter for maybe 8,000 miles and it had been reading 20.3 until we got back on winter gas and some remote starts. Now down to 19.9. Not bad for a 1/2 ton truck at all.

You have to be mindful to get the higher mileage. Basically you have to work for it. I got 22+ on the highway to and from work encountering two complete stops. I would charge the hills a little and granny it up to speed from a stop, with 2K and below shifts. If the turbo's are spinning you are burning gas. That being said, when I ditched the stock car tires I quit looking at the mileage. I don't give a hoot what it is. E load range tires that weigh over 75 pounds are not gas mileage friendly.

Yup... you really don't have to hyper mile it, just try to stay out of the boost as much as you can. If you watch the instantaneous meter for any length of time you can see how a heavy foot kills MPG. I know, sometimes it is hard to stay off the boost.

For comparison. I drive a company provided 2020 Chevy Silverado, 2.7L 4 cylinder turbo 1 wheel drive, with auto start/stop disengaged, in heavy Tampa FL area traffic and average 19.5mpg on 87 octane gas.

The funny thing is the GMC it replaced had the 4.3L NA 6 cylinder and got the exact same MPG in the same driving but was SLOW! The torque that little turbo puts out in the lower RPM range makes it feel like a V-8.

I am averaging 16mpg with quite a bit of high speed (80+) highway driving in my 2018 Tundra 4x4 SR5 which is stock. The best I have seen at slower highway speeds (65-70) was 18.1mpg

I have owned 2 Prius, 1 Avalon hybrid and a 2021 Sienna Hybrid. But sitting right next to them in garage have been Harley Davidson CVO Road Glide, Softail Slim S and now Street Glide. I had a 2003 Lifted Wrangler then a 2001 Tacoma TRD at the same time as the Hybrids. Now with a company provided Truck I only have the Tundra and Street Glide.

I've always been a right tool for the job kind of owner.

I was looking at the GMC's when I bought my Tundra. Pretty impressive HP and torque out of the 2.7!
