Mirror vibration / shakes

Passenger side no problems.

Drivers side can see the mirror shaking when at an idle. Just a little annoying, and guessing will get worse.

Mine is a 2003 sr5. Black mirrors with the chrome backing. Not heated mirrors.
Do I need to replace the whole mirror. If so are aftermarket ones about as good.

If not mistaken, I used aT20 torx tip screwdriver and tightened up the screws when mine was rattling. In fact, I want to recall I got some shorter screws because originals seemed a little long.

 

Where are these screws? Mine rattles also.

 

I think the rattle is an OEM feature. My ‘replacement newer’ side mirror doesn’t do it, but the OEM one does.

Screw tightening is brilliant if it works!

I will try tomorrow. But think mine is the glass itself is loose.

56.00 for aftermarket or 170.00 for oem not heated if I need to replace.

 

For my 2004 there are 3 screws on the bottom of the assembly that's bolted to the door frame? and 1 on the bottom of the mirror assembly itself. For me it was better to take them off and do the surgery on my work bench(don't do well looking somewhat upside down with vertigo). The screws are small and wanted to apply as much umphh as I could on them little buggers since they had been there so long. Might have been overkill but I also cleaned the threads good and applied lock tight. Been at least 2 yrs ago when I did it.

 

Yes, my driver side was having tremors, i had to remove the assembly from the door from the inside, to then get to the inside screw; closest to the body. I didn’t remove and look at the length, but just tightened them really well and they have been good so far(200miles later)

It did work adding lock washers to the two screws and tighten. Just needed to do the two screws that are easiest to get to.

The other two screws close to the door where not loose. Harder to get to. But easy to check and dont have to remove mirror from truck if you have one of these.

I used small lock washers on the torq bolts on my 2006 when the mirrors used to shake

Now i can see clearly!

 

So was it your glass shaking or the entire assy itself? That vid you posted up above has been unavailable.

It helps when we post up pics of what we did so its easier to understand.

 

Welp, I'm glad someone started this thread. I was able to tighten mine without adding washers. No more mirrow jiggle now.

 

Tools needed for tightening.

Tips are T15 and T25.

Drive used is a cobbled together ratchet and 1/4 socket (from a Ghettique Collection garage sale find) to accept the Torx bits. Tightening the screws from underneath fixed the jiggle. Took about 2 minutes total. Still think there are some fasteners behind the mirror plate that could use tightening, but thats for another day.

Do any of you know if any of the accessible screws control the mirrors ability to fold? After a body shop did a crappy job on my 03 the dtiver side mirror no longer folds. I thought maybe it was an ultra cheap aftermarket part, but I don't know much about it since my sister handled the claim with the insurance company. I've also got the shaky mirror issue, so I'm wanting to see if I need to remove the complete assy. or if it can all be fixed on vehicle. Thanks

 

Well, you are dealing with a non-OEM part here so unless someone with a similar issue chimes in, I don't believe you'll get a good answer. As stated above, mine was also loose. Tightened the torx screws. Shaking gone. Mirror still folds and functions as designed.

 

I'm not sure if it's aftermarket or not, it looks like the old one for the most part. I just wonder if it was a used part that the cheesy body shop fixed by eliminating the ability for it to fold. That's the main reason I asked, I'll take a look at it & see if I find any factory part no on it when I have the time.

 

My driver side was shaky. Tightened the 3 screws, no more shaky. Give it a go.
