Many people, myself included don't want 2019+ due to the lack of a standalone transmission cooler. 19k in trade in value is a total ripoff for your truck.

To be fair, it’s now way way off instead of just way off. It’s always been skewed ha.

if you hold down the cruise control button it will bypass the radar cruise to normal cruise

    I drive a ‘21.
    • TSS. 99.9% of the time it is a non-issue. I don’t use radar cruise (don’t like it) or lane departure. The only time I hear from TSS is when there is a bit of snow on the sensor. Then it just tells me it’s not working.

    • Trans cooler. I added one. It’s not hard to do. I did it because the legendary trucks that earned the 2nd gen its reputation—every single one with a towing package—had the cooler. This transmission was designed with it. I don’t think it’s going to fail within warranty, but if it reduces the transmission life even 20%, then I’m adding a cooler because if I don’t need to jump to an HD truck, I’m keeping this thing forever.

    • Crewmax. I love the huge cab and small bed. I’m not a drywaller or house framer. I don’t camp in my truck bed. But I stuff it full of gear all the time. The cab is big enough our 60-lb dog can go at my three kids’ feet in the back on 12-hr trips, and no one is cramped. Also, I carry lots of gear for work that needs to be climate controlled, so the huge backseat area is very helpful.

All that said, OP, do you really think the two trucks you’re talking about here are different enough to justify paying $22k? You could just fix the bearing and keep what you have.
If I had to choose between the two, I’d pick our 200 series hands down.

If you can list your truck for sale and then go buy what you want. The dealership is trying to make a killing on these trucks. They will offer a low number and turn around and jack it way up to sell. Your truck is work way more than 19k. You could probably drop the difference to around 8-9k if you sell yours then go in and start haggling with them.

but yes the cm is worth it. My kids are grown but I love the room in the cm. I have a 19 and tow with it. No issues what so ever even without the cooler.

but it’s up to you. I sold my 4 runner with 310k for 1000 less than I paid for it 6 years earlier. Toyotas hold their value and people will pay for it. That’s the beauty of getting a Toyota. Look forward to hearing what you do.

as a matter of fact I’ll tell my son. He would probably yank your arm off to buy it at $19k. That’s really cheap.

I agree with OP the new tundras are ugly. I personally upgraded from my 2010 to a 2020. I wanted the newer body style. Hopefully they drop the 22 up body style

if they are off/low on my truck, then they are off on the 2020. If I am at KBB on my trade in and under the KBB on the 2020, I should be "ok"??

Look up what your vehicle is selling for. As in, I’m currently looking up 2006 SR5 4Runners with around 190k because I’m about to sell one possibly and I’m getting a feel for the market.

I did (see above). Hard to get apples to apples, but I was amazed how much more they are asking for similar trucks as mine. Again, it is what they are asking, not getting.

Precisely. It’s not too hard to find vehicles recently sold. That tells you what people are buying for, not just attempting to gouge for ha.

Could always make a thread on here:

If you bought in the last 6 months or so how much did you pay for your 2020 Tundra + mileage, features, etc.

Don’t know who will respond but that’s one way.

I can tell you all the trucks in my area are 35-36k and up.

Look at private party and dealer prices for comparable vehicles (ie: the same or similar trim level and specs, with a similar amount of mileage). Check Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Auto trader, Carvanna, Local Toyota Dealers' websites etc.

I went from a double cab 2014, to a Crew Max 2019 back in April of 2022. May have been on either side of the peak of the used vehicle madness. $19k for your trade-in is not bad at all. I got that for mine 2 years ago. It had 110k miles, zero functioning door locks, and a schmucked Right bedside panel towards the rear bumper. I was going to be be in about $5500 for the dealer to repair (replace) the bed panel, and door locks. I had just put Fox 2.0 coilovers at 2" and mickey Thompson baja boss AT 295/70r18 about 6 months prior. They maybe had 4k miles on them. Dealer did the repairs to the truck (obviously at their cost which was cheaper than what they were going to charge me for it), and sold it for $24,900 about 10 days after I left it on the lot. Maybe they could of squeezed $2-3k more out of their selling price back then, my dealership isn't polluted with scumbags though.

I wanted the crew max for more interior room and to maintain a truck. It has been a great trade off I feel. I don't miss the extra foot of bed space (like @Terndrerrr stated, I dont hang sheet rock or frame houses either). I also wanted a 38gal tank, the rear window roll down (I use it all of the time when we aren't covered in snow), and I wanted the OEM LED lights (that were easier to plug n play on the 19 vs the 14) and a couple of other things. It's been a great move for me. I tow, sometimes heavy, but very infrequently and very short distances. Transmission is fine. Use the truck as a half ton and dont worry about it.

I also look at price history, if a vehicle had been listed for 999 days and price reduced 5 times that ain’t the price. Ha

For $22k, you can keep your truck and add a used Sienna, Camry, Rav4, Highlander or Avalon to the fleet to transport the kids. You can get a couple year old Camrys with less than 50k miles on them for $20k or below at the dealerships here in Florida.

Yours is barely broken in unless rust is a factor.

PS I have been reading and seeing experts saying used car prices are taking a nose dive because of the high interest rates. So hold on for a few months to see when that happens.

Certainly. As a general rule though if you spend enough time to look at a decent sample size of trucks, you'll quickly be able to tell the normal price range.

For example, if nearly every 2017 SR5 DC 4x4 is going for $28-32k, then they cannot all be sitting on car lots until the dealer folds and sells it for $24k.

    Some more thoughts.
You're buying used selling used so the price gap should stay similar. I think there are going to be a lot more buying choices in 2024. So time is on your side. I agree with those that say to fix your rear bearing and keep driving since the rest of the truck is ok.
I will add some thoughts on body style.
When I bought my 2018 Crewmax I wanted a DC. Kids were in their own cars and I did not think I needed the space and the longer bed was more important I thought. But I found a really stupid dealer deal on new 18 Crewmax’s and scooped one up.
The times I feel I have short changed myself on the bed size I can probably count on two hands the last 6 years. I have an ATV but it has moved 3 times. It stays put. Do you carry yours around alot ? that would matter.
I discovered so much more utility with the rear window being lowered and long objects being carried secured properly – wood, pipes, use your imagination. The DC does not have a rear window roll down because there is not enough space for the motor. And the luxury of putting large items in the limo sized bigger cab protected climate controlled. How important is this ? We did a move 3 years ago and it was very valuable. I had dressers in there. Now the drawback to this is payload. My truck has a moonroof & motor and with the second rear window motor, large Cab, it all cuts into payload. It adds up. How important is payload. I am usually in my truck alone or only one passenger so it doesn’t matter much to me but those with families ?

I will add I did a lot of research on the 2022 Tundra when they came out (forget the looks) and still I focused on the DC again. Toyota eliminated the DC back seat utility, and if you like the airiness of your truck that is lost on the new models. I recently learned the reason for the smaller cab is because the new frame also supports the new midsize models Tacoma, 4Runner. They brought the frame in 4 inches on each side under the cab to support this.
    Hope this helps.
