Damn, I feel like I’m getting raped by Xfinity. $68/mo. for the lowest bandwidth internet of 75 Mbps. Used to be $50 for 30 Mbps.

This must be the most expensive internet around. I may switch to Verizon 5g WiFi internet once my phone contract is up.

Finally received a note that Fiber is available at my address! Yay. $49 for 300mb. Spectrum service.

My LTE router using a Visible SIM for $25/month. Lol.

I’ve got no competition to argue over and get a better rate unfortunately. :(

Just checked and Verizon is STILL unavailable in my area.

I have no option other than Comcast because they’re the only ones willing to service my house underground. I’m on a weird part of the block with no adjacent poles, and my demarc where the TNI/line needs to come into the house is in a really weird corner that… basically they would need to go aerial with fiber, across a street, staple to a tree, then to the house, then staple about 80 feet onto the house around a corner, then inside. Total shit. I can’t get anyone to drop a line underground to service the 5 homes on the end of my block, and all those homes have normal setups allowing them to get fiber. (Comcast agreed to drop lines underground behind all 5 houses if I got 3 of 5 neighbors to sign up for a year… this was 18yrs ago)

I negotiated Comcast down to $110 for basic TV (with HD) and standard high speed internet about 18 months ago. It’s slowly worked its way back up to $140. I get so tired of their shit, I wish there was another legit option, or a provider who’d be willing to go subterranean rather than stapling to fucking trees and running wires all over the sides of my house.

Have you researched Verizon 5G via WiFi or is that only offered where they can’t put fiber?

We got lucky because our utility provider for Gas and Electric decided to run fiber. I'm really happy with it so far.

Ever price sinking a pole or two? Tree guys removed my phone pole for free while they were removing a bunch of trees. Planting might cost a little more.

That’s just it … I’d need to draw it up for you. There’s no good place to sink a pole. @Jack McCarthy saw the 2 story decks that are behind our houses in another pic, he commented on them, they block lots of shit and the rest of our backyards is shared driveway. The guy between me and the road has one that has tall walls on it, and there’s a huge maple to content with over there. Up front, the pole would just take the place of the tree for something to staple too, but once they tag the house, it’s still a 30’ run stapled to the house, a 90° angle to go another 16’, then another 90° angle to go 10’ before dropping down a story or so to the demarc. I don’t mind running flex conduit with a pull cord for these guys to get the fiber into my data closet, but three different times I’ve had them out here they’re wanting to call the “construction guys to go over it, it’s a tough one, lots of cable!”

Nah. I haven’t. And it sucks because my data closet is subterranean, WiFi signal sucks down there from outside world. Granted I’m gigabit throughout the house but …

If I could get speeds like that and a static IP, I’d probably host a bunch of services in my house…

I remember when modems were like 9600 baud. And I know there were slower ones than that, but what was the point?

They make WiFi directional outdoor antennas with high gain that can pick up weak signals.

The end unit in my building has a direct line of sight to the coffee shop down the street and the guy living there is getting free internet as a result. :p

Downside with Verizon 5G though is 300Mbps download and only 5-10 Mbps upload.

I wondered the same. I think it’s the heat coming out of the engine via side of the hood defrosted the top of the fender panel. Then I noticed there are no footprints to the truck. But yeah, the ice didn’t collect on the fender quarter panel for some reason.
