Ugh... mine has been doing this for the past 2+ years now (I have a 2004 Tundra). Last year, I took it in to the dealer for its 200K service (timing belt, etc) and mentioned the squeaking. Particularly in reverse, especially when it's "cold" but eventually it goes away once things have had a chance to warm up. They did the brakes (all 4) but I'll be darned if the squeaking persisted.

Just recently I took it to a service shop to get the AC worked on and asked them to check on the brake squeak. They did a full inspection and told me the rear hub seals were leaking and that's likely the cause of the squeal. I'm not convinced though... I checked the "breather" valve on the rear diff and it seemed to be okay so I don't know why it would squeeze anything out those seals unless they truly had failed. And in my garage where I park, I'm not seeing any fluid on the concrete under the tires or anything, so I don't know. Admittedly there is a bit of oily residue on the hubs but I'm calling that road debris. :)

Just now, to try it out and since it's a colder, humid day, I pulled out of the garage and backed up a few times... forward is silent as can be and reverse is screaming like a banshee. If it were diff fluid on the brakes I'd expect it to be noisy either direction.

I just doused it in brake cleaner, front and back, and that helped with a little squeal but it's still noisy. And although I don't have a helper to narrow down which tire it's from, by sticking my head out the window while applying brakes in reverse it sure seems to my ears that it's coming from the *FRONT* of the truck, not the rear.

I don't know, I'm just at a loss. It does go away later in the day when things are warm, like I mentioned, but it's pretty embarrassing to have my well kept 19-year old truck making such a racket when backing into a spot at the grocery, or backing into the garage, etc. It just ain't right, I tell ya.

And up until 2-3 years ago, I never really noticed this. I think there was an occasional squeal but it wasn't anything that I made notice of, and not a regular thing at any rate.

I have a 2022 and the brakes wake up my family when backing out of the garage. I complained to the dealer and went through the initial things like blowing out the debris and "adjusting" ha. There is no adjustment to disk brakes. I kept going back and finally they replaced the front pads and rotors. The noise went away for a couple hundred miles and is now back. Toyota is dragging their heels on developing a fix for this issue. This is my third Tunda since 2000. Love the truck but Toyota is flirting with loss of customer base. If something does not happen pretty quickly, I will convert my Tundra into a GMC and never look back.

Had this same issue with my 2022 Tundra.
Brakes would squeak every morning and every time the truck would sit for more that 3-4 hours.
At first I thought it was moisture and whatnot but it did it very consistently since day 2 of owning the truck.
I realized it only squeaked when the brakes were cold and it had nothing to do with moisture/oxidation on rotors.
When I would pull out of the driveway they would squeak when they were relatively cold up until they warmed up.
After I get on the highway and drive for about 30 minutes without using the brakes, they squeak very loudly as I go on the off-ramp off the highway and slow down.
This is because the brakes have cooled again while on the highway and have not been used.
They stop squeaking by the time I am stopped, presumably because they warmed up from braking from 70mph to 0mph.
The brakes squeak because the ceramic brake pads are defective on a lot of these tundras. I have spoken to other owners with the same issue.
If you swap your pads with a new set of quality ceramics, the sound will disappear for good.
This is assuming you don't have other issues, however if you have had squeaks from early on, this is most likely the problem.

I have seen this exact thing with some bad aftermarket pads on my Corvette. Same exact behavior and super annoying. Changing the pads to a quality brand and roughing up the rotors with a sander to remove old pad material solved the issue 100%. Luckily my Tundra does not seem to have this affliction... at least not yet. If it does occur, I'll swap out the brakes myself.

If you love the truck, I wouldn't trade it for a gmc because of squeaking brakes. . . You'll end up with way more problems.
    And welcome to the forum.

Same issues as described here. Really loud brake squeak, mainly in reverse in the mornings. Seems to be worse if cold or damp outside. Dealer says they documented the problem with Toyota and are aware of this common issue but cannot do anything about it. Completely unacceptable to have a brand new expensive truck with no repair solution from Toyota. Going on 7 months now. Happy with the truck otherwise but wouldn’t buy again simply because of this.

Had same issue with a 2023 Platinum. The squealing had become unbearable and embarassing.

Every time I’ve taken it in for service, I’ve reminded them it’s an issue. The last time I took it in, service guy said he thought there was a fix now and that they had to order parts. I kinda doubted it and figured they just wanted to shut me up, lol.

Much to my surprise, got a call today that the parts were in! They changed out the front rotors, pads and shim kits on the brakes. Shows covered under warranty.

Fingers crossed this fixes the issue and that more dealerships start fixing this. My dealer is here in Houston.

Mine started a few months ago. Sounds like it's coming from the drivers-side front, will squeak when backing out of the driveway; so far, that is the only time when it happens.

Same deal. Backing out of driveway and you'll hear the squeak first thing in the morning. I typically hold the brakes slightly to purposely create the squeak as I back out, then proceed to drive and brake without noise.

One would think this is something we wouldn't have to deal with considering the costs of these trucks.

Can you provide any additional information on what the dealership said?

I just spoke to my dealership and they are still saying Toyota is aware but no fix or recall has been approved yet..

Got my first squeaks a couple days ago backing out of the driveway first thing in the morning, no other times. My 4runner did the same thing every day, I thought I might get lucky with the tundra. Doesn't do it every day though.

23 Tundra and just rolled over 1000 miles (bought January 24 as leftover) and I had brake squeal pretty regularly and I mentioned it when I brought it in for the transmission recall.

Ended up being front pads being glazed over and they had lots of metal in them. They ended up resurfacing the rotors and replacing the pads. No more squeal.

Just gonna add two cents here. My 24 didn't start getting the reverse squeak until after I had around 3k miles on it. Then it really only does it when it is hot out, and the brakes are cold. Moisture does not have an impact. And it only squeaks in reverse.

Mine are terrible as well, at dealer yesterday, can't replicate - left dealer when to Home Depot, backing out of the parking space - squeal and this morning same ear bending noise. I provided them a video yesterday at my appointment.

I think it’s the auto parking brake that needs adjustment. It’s like it’s not fully releasing the pads, however it slowly retracts and that’s why it disappears as the day unfold. my 2c

    5,200 mls started about 1,500 - ’24 1794 HV 4x4

Send the TSB info to my pitiful local dealer see what they have to say…
    ...
    4 days later no response...

I emailed my advisor, and he is ordering the TSB kit for me. I've complained about this since day one, so I don't need to come in for them to verify first. However, the parts are back-ordered.

Perfect timing, too, as I've been having what feels like warped rotors as I get a good shimmy when braking that gets worse the more I press down the pedal.

Took my 2024 in for the brake squeal coming from the front end. Told them about T-SB-0043-24. They verified the squeal and replaced the front rotors and pads with the kit. The squeal is gone. Would not have known about the SB if not for this forum.

2022 started squeaking at 3,000 miles. Complained every time I went in for service. They actually told me "we adjusted the brakes for you". Just put new front brakes and rotors on myself (30,000 miles) no squeaking now. Time to get my front drivers seat fixed now :(. Disappointed that Toyota wouldn't do anything about it.

Got a 2012 Tundra. Does it most mornings. Even after a brake service. One of those idiosyncratic things.
