So I was wanting black badges for my truck. Everywhere I looked people are selling the overlays and not the actual black badges with adhesive on the back. I can find the Toyota oem badge set but it’s close to 130$. I began looking on eBay and found a seller that sells the replacement black badges for what most of the overlays cost. They come with 3M adhesive on the back (at least mine did) and the badges themselves seem to be high quality. I wanted to pass this good deal I found along. Here is a before and after pic of the truck to give you an idea of what it looks like with or without.
Below is the link to the badges.

Look good, would have no idea they weren’t OEM.

Looks better without badges imo. I removed every one of them.

Normally I agree. On this truck however I felt like the badges kinda tied it together.

    Soon...
I put some of them on as well. I love them but the 5.7 badge on the door recently fell off of both sides. The adhesive tape is still there, but the badges are gone.

    That's what I'm worried about.

My problem with a blacked-out 5.7 badge is, you can't read it from much more than arm's length. It looks like a piece of black duct tape or something. I'd keep the Tundra badge and lose the 5.7.

The OEM overlay kit is probably the best move if you want to retain blacked out badges.

I tried the less expensive overlay kits and did all the surface prep- scuffing the chrome surface with an abrasive, prep with denatured alcohol, warming with a heat gun prior to application... and they still came off when the weather and ambient temps changed. The plastic always warped and pulled them off the adhesive.

Bit the bullet and bought the OE kit. It has not budged in a year and covers the chrome completely. They look like they were black badges from the start.

I kind of agree with you...What do you think of this? It's just a mock-up of a black overlay I bought. I was playing with the idea of filling in the overlay..

They do sell them with just the 5.7 filled

20190218_134711.jpg 20200614_192223.jpgI started to get the blackout overlys but I found TVD Vinyl and put them on all of my badges. I like that you can see a little bit of the chrome behind the letters. I've had these on for 4-5 years and never had an issue.

I really like that! That looks good. I just might have to check this out. I'm on their site though and not finding the 5.7 one though:confused:

I think they are on Etsy too. I had to reach out to the owner once before. I think his name is Rich. If I remember correctly he's on the forum too. But I could be wrong. It's been a while. He's still on here. @rrentrop

Did the plastidip on my Tacoma and worked well. Still looked good when I sold it 4 years later.
