I don't like my new step bars. What do you guys think?

I purchased step bars/running boards along with a Leer tri-fold hard cover and bedrug. Love the cover and bedrug but these step bars seem to mount very low and stick out very far. This isn't the greatest photo but you can see the large gap between the body and the cab. The owner of the shop where I bought the accessories did not charge me for the step bars. I have a few days to determine whether I like them or not. I don't care for their position and there are no other mounts available. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Is there any play left to raise the brackets? Mine had about 1" to play around with

I immediately disliked them, but after looking at them for a while, they began to grow on me. It's definitely different.

I don't think the bars look bad, but the brackets are way too long. Is there anyway to mod the bracket so the step will sit closer to the body?

Honestly... they're horrendous. Remove them and burn them so no other Tundra owner can put these on after you.

I like the way the rough country hug the rocker. These Aries looked great in black on the display rack. I allowed the owner to convince me that the brushed aluminum would look great and ordered them up. They definitely are not growing on me LOL

I'm sure I could modify the brackets but why should I have to spend a day modifying the brackets after spending fat cash? I think I'm just going to return them and look for some that sit tighter to the truck.

I would make another choice. Remove them and RMA them to the company who sold them to you.

Looks liek the brackets are universal to fit other models of steps and they say they are doing that to reduce inventory that dealers have to stock.

Try to go black on the next set. It'll give you more options in the future if and when you start changing wheels, color matched handles, chrome delete, dipped emblems, etc.

I've got these and freaking built tough. I've tested these Rock "Steps" out with full weight of my truck going over hard packed dirt/rock humps. (Who doesn't like hard packed humps?) on an ATV trail. Check my build thread. Not sliders but the closest thing to sliders. Each side weighs approx 50 lbs....and "mounts"..high and tight...hoo wee....[IMG]Body Armor http://www.bodyarmor4x4.com/rockstep-for-2007-2013-toyota-tundra-double-cab_188

I'd most likely tear them off or frack the hell out of them in short order irregardless of color. Ditch em... There are so many great looking aftermarket steps steps out there. A lot. Those Aries are the worse I've seen. No offense. I hate the large gap. Not too dog friendly either. Can easily break a leg...

If u don't have kids, get some sliders. I can't wait for my kids to get old enough to remove steps n go that route. I'll still have to hear it from wifey but I'm past the point of caring lol, it's just something else I'll have to hear her complain about, add it to the list. Unfortunately I got a long wait at 8 and 3. It is nice even my 3 yr old gets himself in with steps. Hopefully the fact I linex'd mine I'll be able to sell them in great shape still down the road. Good luck my vote is replace them thangs. Like Joon said can't go wrong in black, that gets my vote.

If this makes you feel any better I have seen worse, though. Just not my choice, free or not. Not being a dick, which I can be, just being honest. If u got chance to get money back I'd take the opportunity. No matter what, keep in mind who gives a ish about what anyone else thinks, if u love em keep, if u don't change.

If you can get them to tuck right under the doors, then I would say cool, but hanging down that low you might as well get some yasamity sam mud flaps too, lol
