That's why I dumped that 2018 after the trans issue and the bs they tried to shove up my ass! Never a loaner car and weeks if not a month to get repairs done. Fucking filing cabinet about feel over after the 5th year owning the Ford.
Frt pinion seal, leaf springs grunt, valve cover crack, cam phasers, rear wind def, transmission failing. Never made it past 46k miles. Always confirm issue and then reschedule to order parts so sad and never again.

"For the first nine months of 2020, Ford's warranty costs totaled $3.87 billion, while GM's were $1.68 billion, according to regulatory filings."

See how well these peps like their Tremors when they hit 40k miles and are worth roughly half what they paid for them. Good times, which is why I owned the Raptors, but they too take hits after miles and time. The rule of thumb for them is around a $10k drop for every 10k miles you put on them.

Enjoy that crap after 2-3 trucks and see if you aren't driving a Tundra. Those talking crap about Ford won't be talking too loud after its a 4-5 year old truck and they can't afford to get rid of it.

I learned despite all the special shit your ford has its just a Vin number at trade in. Mine had alot of "packages" cameras/tailgate step bla bla bla.......If it ain't on the Vin it's not counting!

They took my very flawed buyback, where I had done the right thing by having them repurchase, said it would go to Dearborn for study and instead sold it to some schmo in Charlotte.

A couple of more ingredients for the cocktail- they also order electronic modules serially so you wait, wait for instal, wait for the next one and so on as opposed to listening to the service manager that knows he'll need all three from the jump. Oh yeah, quality assembled by the UAW that hates Ford and their customers.
Again, go to the back lot of a Ford dealer or ask up front how many trucks they have there that are >30 days to repair and if the customer has a loaner.

They are required by law to tell the buyer that it was a lemon buy back. I am curious how much crap you had to go through to get them to buy it back. Did you lawyer up?

Yup. I didn't dump it on someone because that's a shitty thing to do in my book. The Ford rep in Dearborn and the GM at the dealer said it would go to Dearborn to be used by execs. I know via the app it was resold in Charlotte.
At least I tried to do the right thing.

Very few titles are branded lemon law. A buyback can just look like a trade. Mine was so far beyond the lemon law gates there was no reason to lawyer up. It was black and white. I lost about $6K for 12K miles of driving and didn't give a shit. I just wanted it out of my life due to the service experience.

I traded mine in April. Just got another call (3rd) from Ford dealer saying onstar is reporting oil life is at 5% call us back to schedule an appointment Wtf??? I refuse to call them back.
I reset everything in the truck before trading it in so I don't really know why... maybe it's the Ford app...... prob broke too;)

They send a note to me every other day saying I still have a $2000 credit I can use. They just don't have a clue what they are doing.

Is there a way to find out if a used car was a "buy back? I looked on the web and ford does use the word (lemon) in the buy back program.

    Ford lemon law buyback

I don't have an absolute answer but I think it's pretty easy for a dealer group to transfer from one store to another and the title isn't rebranded because Ford never took title.

All the bashing of each brand is just entertaining to me, that’s why I, a former tundra owner, keeps coming back. For me, I just enjoy all trucks and buy what I like. I don’t let others’ horror stories of past experience scare me away. If I did, I would have never bought the 2021 Ram 1500 Limited I owned previously. I thought the Ram was a great truck and had zero issues with it. I thought the 3rd Gen Tundra TRDP would replace the Ram, but, when the opportunity presented itself to get a 2023 Raptor for not much more, I jumped on it. I’ve had my Raptor for about 9 months now, and I absolutely love it. So far, the Raptor is the first truck I’ve had in a while that I could see hanging onto for a while.

Not much on the web so that's scary as others have said their lemon was sold again. Man that would suck to find out afterwords. Like the guy who found out he bought a Tundra that was used in the mud for a dealership video!

Wow.I found it! Dudes motor boating that truck! Lmao

They probably had that guy wanting a truck like yours and willing to pay more to get it so they buy it off you , fix it , then sell it for a huge profit . lol

I know a few "rule of thumbs" that largely mitigate all the problems for modern car ownership:

    1. Assume the value of it is $0 after you drive it off the lot - that way you're not worried about trade-in values.
    2. Pay in cash unless the manufacturer is offering a 0-1% APR car loan through their captive finance company.
    3. Keep more cars on-hand than the number of people in your family so if 1 goes down, you have a backup (or two). For my GF and me, I tell her, "Four is three and three is really two."

We've always factory ordered our cars since way before the pandemic and the few Toyota dealerships that we visited don't seem to entertain factory ordering a 1974 Crew Cab with the 6.5' bed reinforced that our next few vehicle purchases will probably be domestic vehicles.

We were BMW buyers prior to this but putting holes through a BMW engine block at tracks like Watkins Glen, VIR, Summit Point, NJMP, etc. does get expensive. If I blew up a Ford 5.0 Coyote or a GM 6.2 LT2 at the track, I can just go online and "add to cart" versus the $15-25k for a brand new BMW engine.

For #2, negotiate the price of the vehicle first. Then talk about financing options and decide if it makes more sense to finance or pay cash.

    Agreed.

I assumed (perhaps, bad assumption) that those shopping for a Ford would have already known about Granger Ford and Chapman Ford (Northeast PA) and their 3-4% under invoice pricing.

People should be using that as a baseline for negotiating with other Ford dealerships. That way they're wasting less time and can get to the "Yes/No" part of the deal sooner.

Or better yet pick up 2 year old f150s with around 20k miles for $30-40k off msrp. That is smarter, Toyota, certain Nissans, and Subaru tend to have residual values so high you might as well buy new,

Most of my purchases are planned purchases 1-3 years out. That's really only possible if you have a spare vehicle(s) to weather an emergency or downturn/downtime. I try my best to mitigate situations where I am forced into purchases on the seller's terms. It may end up costing the same if not more and that's okay - to me, it's a matter of principle.

While past performance is sometimes a predictor of future performance, predicting reliability is complex.

I tend to think that for most manufacturers, the second model year after a "mid cycle enhancement" with no revolutionary powertrain changes tends to be the more reliable pick.

It's pretty hard to find a used one in a specific configuration that I want and I just don't want to take any risk of the previous owner having abused it - that's MY job.

I also don't want to take the chance of a pandemic production vehicle with a manufacturer date between 2021 and 2023.

A quick search on CarGurus for a 2021-2023 F150 Crew Cab Platinum with the 3.5 EcoBoost (non Hybrid) 6.5 bed doesn't show any cars that are actually worth purchasing used:

    https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...SelectingHelper.selectedEntity=d337&zip=21754

Most of them are within $5000 (if not the same price) of what it would cost for a brand new 2024 F150 Crew Cab Platinum with the non-hybrid 3.5 Ecoboost 6.5 bed from Granger Ford.

There’s not much more fun than negotiating an out the door price in writing then sitting down to close the deal and letting them know you’re paying cash. I look too young to be paying cash for things like trucks and six figure boats so I usually get an extra good reaction.

Maybe toyota or foreign cars but domestics go through a lot less refreshes. In spring of 2020, I purchased a used fully loaded 2018 Raptor with 20 k miles on it. Pretty sure the guy paid msrp plus ceramic coat etc for it, probably around an $80k truck. I paid 55k for it drove it 32 thosuand miles and sold it for $52k. The 2023 Raptor was the redesign and of course Ford was late with it and didn't make many so I had 3 years of the current design before any refresh.

The Tundra has eliminated the chrome with the nightshade refresh which I wish I had but the chrome doesn't bother me that much and doesn't look that bad with the white pearl tri coat.

Ford is offering or has offered zero percent, unless you are using your truck recreationaly or putting less than 10k miles on it in a year then paying cash is stupid especially for a work truck. You can pay cash for boats motorcycles, or sport cars which most of mine have less than 20k miles on them. They will appreciate at a rate that you can hold out for an offer that you like and pick and choose. Isn't like someone can find vehicles in that condition on every block or lot. Plus original well maintained low mileage originals always sell for premiums.

If you like the look of paying cash and I know it does give you a negioating edge and the ability to make better deals. However, I make more than six figures from investments interest, and miscellaneous income from assets alone. I started late, If I would have started at a younger age I would already be retired.

To me, I feel like the raptor is a raptor and not an f-150. So, apples to oranges.
