Yep. Make your shelf the depth you want at the full width and notch out the corner.

I'd bring it out for more storage. Once stocked, it's not about how closets look but how much they store so the rest of the house looks good.

That said, you may want the highest shelf to be a bit less deep, or to plan what's going to be stored on it and adjust accordingly; gotta make sure you can see and reach to the back of it, or store items you can access by pulling from the front. And some items, like rolled sleeping bags, or rolls of wrapping paper, won't fit between the front of the shelf and the inside wall of the closet near the ceiling, when you're trying to pull them down (if you make that top shelf deep).

I would do what this guy would do. Trace the wall imperfections onto the shelf and cut it.

Took my smooth brain a minute to get it but now I'm with ya. I should add that I'm a pretty bad carpenter.

That would be this length then. I'll need more beers for this.

Probably not deeper than that red 16 marker. You can store brooms or a vacuum or something in that right front corner. And less deep for the top one or two shelves, that are above the top of that door opening.

That's a very good point. I can see different depth shelves being important.

I'll start with 11" up top and see how I like it. I'm going to space them roughly 15" apart I think.

Agreed on the top shelf being less deep than the lower shelves. Gotta give yourself room to throw crud up there.

Hell yeah, there you are! Welcome back dude!

I'm glad you said this because I saw some comments above and was gonna be, like, "Yeah, except I guarantee every wall in that f'n house is out, just like every other house built since we departed the caves!"

But yeah, FGV, expect about 1/16" - 5/8" of variation from floor to ceiling. Walls are bowed, it's the nature of the beast. Nothing is ever straight.

15-18" is standard. I found the best distribution for mine was 1st shelf 24" off the floor. Next two shelves 18" apart. Next 2 shelves 15" apart, then top shelf is about 13" from ceiling. Lemme grab a pic.[/QUOTE]

I'll disagree with notching the shelf.
That short space behind the doors on the right - I'd make triangle shaped shelves.
That deep space, just make square/rectangle shelves that come out as far as you want.
Have the triangles meet up to the front edge of the larger shelves (so it won't be fully triangular).
have the short & deep shelves match up, end result your shelves come forward & fade off to the front right by the door.

I replaced the spaces with periods. Highly inelegant.

Not a lot. Just an older MCS head (3233?), and a Lafayette LR-5555. I need to go through the MCS head and find out what’s bad on it (popping sounds, bad power board maybe?) but haven’t had time. I think that’s a direct drive Toshiba TT, I’ve got quite a few other tables to overhaul just haven’t had time. I need to merge those two together to make one working table that looks really nice. Fully auto.

EDIT: All the Sony stuff above is only there in case I need a more modern head with phono input, since you can’t find any anymore. And a tape deck. And a CD player. Since that stuff is getting hard to buy decent quality anymore without paying out the nose.

I have to go into work tomorrow morning. Not because the boss is making me, but because I am making me. Without going into too many details, I have about two hours worth of work left for the year. Those two hours worth of work translate into $1500. Essentially, I will be making $750 an hour tomorrow

Heard a Technics SA-300 when I was 12 (Brothers), and the impression is still there. Want to get one some day, prob for shop tunes.

Nice! Rumor is and always has been that MCS is Panasonic/Technics rebranded for sale at department stores (JC Penney?), but I can’t compare that MCS to any Technics heads because I’ve never owned one. The old Lafayette heads are beasts and generally fly under the radar, I’d rather have one any day over most of what Marantz put out.

TT-wise, I still have both my 1200 MK3s and Ecler I used when I played out bitd, but don’t keep them out. I keep out an MCS 6601 for random playing because the sound is pretty solid with good shells and I don’t mind if the kids damage anything, I’ve got a spare and a ton of spare parts. I can tell you after getting in the guts of dozens of Technics TT, and several MCS tables, the similarities are uncanny, and a few parts basically identical, so I absolutely believe Panasonic made both.
