It was stimulating and enthusiastic conversation debating the luminiferous aether and the meaning of life liberty and the pursuit of prosperity. Hopefully the mods see it that way and keep the hammer at bay.

You can find something less constricted, although that price is attractive.

The trick is to get 3 generations of family renting a 3-4 bedroom house while parking your 8-10 cars in the driveway, back yard and front lawn to afford the living. ;)

So I'm redoing this hall closet. Adding shelves and giving it a paint job. I want to ditch this ADT rats nest we inherited. If I do that, there will be a hole where they fed wires through. Should I just cap them and cut out the rest?

@bmf4069 will be horrified at this.

Would want to keep any power lines accessible in case they cause a problem in the future. You can use a small light switch box mounted to a stud where the hole in the wall is. Run the wires in the box and put a cover on it.

Good morning! Glad you're in here today, Valod. That's what I meant about reminding me of the campfire at T2S; there everyone kept agreeing with you, and you still argued. :drunk:

We knew you were in a bottle last night and it's entertaining as long as no one takes a jab. Since no one engaged and no name calling or insults took place, I hope you'll make it through with a reminder that politics typically don't go over well here. That said, what a fine example of mature self-regulation the rest of us first gen members showed.

Mods, I'm guessing no one reported. So if you happen on this at some future time, I'll add my name to the group that hopes you'll keep Voss among us. We do loves the guy.

It kinda looks like it. I'll have to open that hole up a bit. That wall is where the HVAC return is.

Better check your zoning - most of CT thinks it's above travel trailers.

    First things first...

The wiring obviously goes to any motion sensors, window and door contacts, siren(s), etc. in your house; those are not things you want to rewire. Those are not wires you cannot re-run without lots of pain. DO NOT CUT.

The sensors those go to can be repurposed many of the more-modern alarm systems, like Ring, by using the Ring Retrofit kit. Simplisafe and others may have similar.

Label the sensor wiring if you know which sensors they feed.

Remove the wiring from the main board and power board.

    Remove the boards.

Remove the can - remove bottom two screws, loosen the top screw, lift can off the wall.

    Remove the cellular callback unit.

    Show us what's left.

The can is worth throwing in the attic for future purposes. (Home automation, shit like that)

2+ decades of working in low voltage and physical security. I designed, deployed, and managed the CCTV, alarms, access control systems in a lot of buildings, including most of my current employer's sites during the last 15ish years.

This is specifically fresh because I've done retrofits for my house and my friends houses next door, moving them away from Ackerman and ADT during the last few years. Similar process.

Good call. I think I have one already.
By the time I saw this, I already removed the box. We already have a Simplisafe system which I installed.

Spot on. It looked like dust. Here's what I have left.

Nearly 100 percent that's just dust.

I'm with @shifty` label it all, cut in an old work box and stuff it inside.
