Update for those following along…
Daughter was transported to new hospital finally last night around 7:30. They put her on NPO (no food/drink) at midnight pending tentative surgery today (her second day now of NPO, and the damn kid is barely 100lbs soaking wet).
Today my wife spoke to Ortho PA and the lead Neurosurgeon and they had one plan but no surgery date yet. Ordered an MRI for 6am and a CT scan at 8am. Finally had Neuro come back in at 12:30 and give us updated plan.

She’s got a fairly rare U-shaped fracture of the sacrum - vertically along the S1 and S2 and then across the S2, which essentially creates a cut out flap at the base of her spine and compromises all support of her spine (and causes a shit ton of pain any time her hips or legs move). Surgery is scheduled for 7:30am on Friday, and they will be doing an L5-S1 fusion with neurosurgeon doing the procedure. Estimated 4 hour surgery, and at that time ortho will evaluate if they will need to do a second surgery to run a screw/pin laterally through the pelvis and sacrum.

If the fusion procedure goes as expected, she may be released to actually walk within 1-2 days (she has been on strict bed rest since the accident), 6-12 weeks for the fusion to take, ~3 months for return to mostly normal activity, and ~6 months for “full recovery.” There are also some concerns right now about nerves controlling the bladder, but stabilization of the joint and starting the bone healing is the first step.

 

At least there is a plan, now. That doesn't sound like a good time, though. I imagine she's looking forward to having something done instead of just being stuck in limbo?

 

Very much so.

And getting to eat again for a little bit is nice.

 

Also update on the boyfriend - tube came out of his chest this morning and he was discharged this afternoon to go home. Still in a good bit of pain in his arm, but at least able to rest at home.

I learned to drive a semi in 5-speed GMC Astro
A big hump in the middle and impossible to sleep in.



We had some of these 7-speed Volvos that were awesome to sleep in.
Nice flat doghouse you could stretch across..
I overslept 3 hours once in one of them, luckily I was hauling a set of empties.



We had 3 of these 9 speed Internationals and I trained in one of them.
Every time I ground a gear my supervisor lit up a cigarette.
She must have smoked 2 packs that day.
The first tractor I ever drove with a splitter.




The worst POS I ever had to drive was a snub nose International.
Had cup holders at the top of the dash that would spill a drink on any pothole.



All are new tactors are automatics, they shift gears in the middle of a turn and leave you sitting there while it figures out what gear it wants.
Fucking rookies cry like little girls when dispatch gives them a 10-speed stick Mack or Kenworth to drive..

My current assigned tractor is a Freightliner.
Twin screw, runs pretty well, pretty smooth with good shocks, and it doesn't have all those nanny alarms and following distance BEEPING alerts that the Kenworths have..

yes we have one left. The shop now uses it for road calls. My buddy is one of the mechanics in my building. So sometimes after my shift he will let me drive it around the yard. So fun, but man I forgot what a work out those non powered steering trucks were.

 

They carry some weird ass snacks out west.
