When's the last time you lubed up?

That's right everyone's favorite pastime...

Lube jobs.

I'm having the devil of a time getting to the zerk in the front driveshaft closest to the T-case. Any suggestions?

I've got 2 gun tips in addition to the original one. A 90° and coupler lock (the kind that grips the fitting to allow both hands on the gun).

If you move the little heat shield out of the way it’s easy.

 

Well, I don't think that'll help me. Here is what I'm looking at:

 

Have you tried spinning the driveshaft to see if you can get a better angle/access?

 

On my 17 there’s a small heat shield towards the driver side. 2 12mm bolts if I remember correctly. With that shield out of the wat it’s an easy shot to that zerk.
I’ve also used the angled attachment and cursed and right before I quit it latched on and worked. I got the “remove heat shield “ advice off this site and it worked.
A couple more bolts to remove but it made a big difference.

Us first gens just grind down the tip of a regular zerk coupler and it gets in there

The end of the coupler isn't the issue. It's the length. The part of the coupler closest to the gun hits the trans mount.

 

The only way I’ve gotten to that one is when it’s pointed to the drivers side of the truck.

 

Hi there, we all feel the pain and the sigh when we goto do this fitting. I bought the lock n lube off Amazon, pricey but it works for me with no heat shield to remove. I put my head at front of truck feet towards the rear. Rotate the drive shaft so fitting can be barely see at its 11 o'clock position the way your looking up at it. You will barely see it sneaking a peak by leaning head towards passenger side. I am able to sneak the lock n lube up in there clamp on and pump away. I have a 24" flex line on my grease gun. I hope this works for you. One other note: I still curse it !! One further thing I did, not that I expect to break a u joint, I have gone ahead and marked the multi piece drive shafts in reference to each other with a paint marker for reference points. This way if they ever seperate and come apart I know exactly how it was lined up before to avoid any balance issues. Call me paranoid
