That's because Jim and Tyler have questionable taste... and because I don't shut up when I'm on nights.

I take full responsibility for this derail, as I don't actually participate in the secret Santa thing. I just:stirthepot:

I realize there’s been some stuff going on behind the scenes this year, but I don’t like being a drama llama, so I will just say thank you very much Santa(s)

A nice gift just arrived. I am going to bring that chocolate to my daughter this evening when I go trade shifts with momma bear at the hospital. It should raise her spirits.
    IMG_0758.jpg

And the wine will be waiting to raise mine once we get to bring her back home.

Damn Casey I been late getting to this news. You didn't need to send me the stinkin 3D printed dealio when you did! So sorry for the Krampus Christmas you're having (and kin as well).

I drive 40 min one way to work every morning and it's mostly pitch black the whole way. Lots of curves and hills. Been seeing a lot of what you described with that dipshit in the fancy car - ppl passing in double yellow, goin uphill and blind curves. It is amazing no accidents have happened but it's a matter of time. Never understood how ppl can have such a severe lack of judgment where the consequences can be fatal.

    Sending positive thoughts your way.

    Thanks bud
I had a few printed and wanted to get them out. And it gave me a few minutes of sanity.
Surgery tomorrow (finally) to fixate her lower spine and sacrum with an L4-L5-S1 fusion. Prognosis is good that she’ll be ambulatory within 1-2 days (has been on strict bed rest since the accident). Full recovery 3-6 months, but the doctors are telling us not to cancel her 21st birthday trip at the end of February.

You may need to quit your job and become an Uber driver with an exclusive contract to drive her around...

Great news! (as I look up what a sacrum is)

The orthopedic doc actually showed me the MRI imaging last night. It was crazy to see the whole area and the actual fractures.

for every one else - it’s the triangle bone at the base of the spine between your pelvis bones

    From how I understand it:
Traveling at ~40 mph, suddenly you stop. Airbags deploy and stabilize your torso and head. Legs and hips continue traveling forward (and she’s small, so knee airbags likely were higher up on her). The sacrum sits forward of the pelvis to form the sacro-illiac joint. So the hips traveling forward actually fracture the “wings” at the upper edges of the triangle (Ala in the image you posted)

Just adding a little to that...

In an accident the feet are generally planted on the floor (and often times pressed hard against the floorboard instinctually and into a weird angle if the occupants are aware of the collision that's about to take place); when the energy from the collision starts to move rearward through the vehicle (as stated the airbags stabilize the upper body) however the energy is transferred from the vehicle to the feet/legs following the path of least resistance until it reaches the awkward bend at the hips and waist and ultimately terminates at that curve/bend in the body resulting in an extreme amount of force trying to move body parts in directions they were not meant to move :(

I wouldn't doubt it. Not a fusion, but had a microdiscectomy of my L5/S1 back in 2005. Was ambulatory that day and was doing 'light' work within 2 or 3 weeks, and that was 18 years ago or so.

Prayers and thoughts going up for the surgery!

I've been forgetting to grab this shirt out my gym shirt pile when I go out with the family.
Tonight I did with my wife and 5 kids (aged 8, 5, 4, 2, and 1) to go eat at a pizza place. As soon as I walked in the crew working gave us the typical "holy sh!t, look at these freaks with all their kids!" look. The cashier who checked us out said, "dang, apparently your shirt is for real with all these kids!" Haha.

It's funny, cuz I was wearing the same hat as in the pic
