Brother in law has a 2023 Defender. He said the driver assistance features are super annoying and some can't be disabled even temporarily. And, he has had quite a few dealer trips for build quality issues, like trim flying off while going down the highway. I guess the dealer gave him a hard time for not having the trim when he brought it in because you can't exactly stop and walk around on the interstate to retrieve it.

Other than that, he likes it.

Air ride front and rear right? Off road capability is in another level.

He got it this summer, not sure where the build date would have fallen.

It does have the air suspension. He demonstrated that.

For me it's all in lower lumbar. If it's not right I get a back ache that won't go away after a few hours no matter how I recline or adjust myself or the seat. And adjustable height lumbar doesn't automatically mean I'm good. My challenger RT plus had leather with adjustable height and I was good for maybe 2.5-3 hours max before a lower back ache set in.

My F150 XLT Has stationary lumbar but however it's shaped it's set up just right so I'd probably never need to stop driving if I didn't need to eat, sleep or pee. My 09 Tundra SR5 with stationary adjustable lumbar was better than my Challenger but not as good as the F150. I think maybe the Challenger's lumbar support was "pointier" whereas the Tundra and F150 lumbar support had a softer rounder shape.

Traded my 22 Platinum for 23 Raptor. A major upgrade IMO. I'm not a brand loyalty person, it was my first ford in 20 years (4th Toyota). Loving the raptor.

The ride quality and rear suspension, doesn't have the exterior wind noise, rear seating area feels bigger, (might be the flat floor). Infotainment is more intuitive, no subscription required for the remote access, only about half a miles less on my MPG too. 3000 miles so far and no complaints.

Platinum Tundra has the thigh support extension as well as lumbar adjustment out/in/up/down. Seems to cover all Tundra seat complaint issues?

They served me well on an Alaska trip this summer. Well over 10k trip towing a 7k camper. Was not sore/tired at the end of the day compared to my 08’ CrewMax. And I’ve got lower back issues. Of course the heated/cool seats didn’t hurt.

the older I get I have to say I love the heated wheel. my 2013 ram had that, then I got my 2016 tundra which did not, I now have it again.

this one gets nice and hot, feels great on those cold days

    thats bullshit euro, sorry.

they had a couple manufacturing errors launching an all new vehicle during a global pandemic.

not offering things like that on the top trims isnt going to help anything, people still bitch about other things they want as it is. The waste gate was a part suppler error and the bearing deal is a manufacturing error not cleaning some of the blocks.

shit happens, they are fixing them, the turbo waste gate thing has been over for a long time now as well

if toyota had the ride, content, and features of my 2016 this time around, reliability or not, I'd be driving that black appearance package blue Powerboost Ford

I've driven the new Ford for 1500 miles now, so I figured I'd update with the negatives:
    • This has the mid-level sound system - an 8-speaker B&O. It sits between the base system and the B&O Unleashed. It isn't great, which is unfortunate because the B&O system in my 2020 was the best stock system I've had in a vehicle and the overall speaker layout and specs on this system are very similar. The biggest issue is that it's biased really heavily toward the center channel no matter what I do. I've read that many people unplug the center channel and it improves the sound staging dramatically, so I may give that a try. I've also read that there are some new OTA updates that impact the sound processor and improve things and I've confirmed that my truck is behind on those updates. The subwoofer is externally ported and smaller than the one in my 2020. The slightly lower output combined with the larger cab means the low end is lacking a bit. From the reading I've done, the B&O Unleashed has the same two issues, so I'm not sure if I would have been happier with that one. It's one of those systems that sounds really good with certain music but is below average with other songs.
    • The drivetrain is a little herky-jerky. For the first 500 miles or so, it was bad enough to be irritating in certain situations. It has ironed out considerably, though, and while it's still that way a bit (sometimes with the change between gas/electric), I attribute a lot of it to the learning process and it no longer bothers me.
    • For my driving, gas mileage is only about 1.5 MPG better than my 2020 F-150 (3.5 EcoBoost). I'm seeing 23 pretty reliably, where my last truck would be maybe 21.5 with winter tires on winter fuel. I expected this this going into it so I suppose it isn't really a negative, but given it's using electric power for ~30% of my driving, it's odd to not see more than a ~7% gain. That said, seeing 23 MPG in the winter means I may see 24-25 in the summer.
    • Ford's optioning is silly in some areas - MSRP over $70k and the truck didn't have bed lights or the extra tie down location because the dealer didn't add the $1000 "bed utility package". This stuff used to be standard even on higher end XLTs. I ordered the parts for all that, because it can be done easily after the fact.
    • The climate control is a little odd. On drives under an hour, it's perfectly fine. Over an hour, the cabin starts heating up and I need to set it to the lower 60s to compensate. Reading the forums, this appears to be an issue on the 22s and 23s but not the 21s and the theory is it's because they moved the interior temp/humidity sensor near the windshield causing it to think it's colder than it is in winter conditions.
That said, I'm still happy with it. The overall interior quality and fit/finish is much improved over my previous F-150s. The power out of this drivetrain is absolutely outstanding. The new Sync 4 infotainment is really well done-it's fast, full-featured, and laid out sensibly. Comfort is good, visibility is good, they fixed some stupid stuff from the last generation - like that there's actually a physical button for the heated steering wheel now, and the rain sensing wipers actually work well instead of going to full speed when it's misting. The new tech is cool, too - lane centering works very well on the highway. My biggest annoyance is really the audio and that isn't impossible to deal with, especially for a minor improvement.

So in other words the ford b and o system sucks, what a shock. It has since they dumped sony premium sound and went with them anyway.

I actually really liked my 2020 Ford B&O system. It was surprisingly good for a factory setup - most agree it was better than the Sony in the 15-17 trucks. I don't understand why they changed the subwoofer design and tuned it so it's so center heavy in the newer ones.

The b and o system sucked in my 18 raptor not sure how they magically make it better in the 21s onward. The 2011 sony system in the raptors were better. The jbl system in the tubdra isn't bad, it is cleaner and vastly superior to the b and o system ford uses. These aren't bose or Harmon systems that other car makers use.

Ford's sound systems have never been all that good, even the sony. I have the sony system in my 2014 and the base sound system in my GX(not the upgraded Mark Levinson one) is quite a bit better.

But I agree that the B&O wasnt a step up. My coworker had it in his 2018 platinum and he was all excited about it.

Sony, JBL, Panasonic, B&0 are all mid level brands for the masses.
And if the products are no longer made in Japan but China ..... who knows how good the circuits and soldering is.
You need woofers in big boxes for efficient excellent bass. Vehicles with trunks used to be amazing.
Now bass is very inefficient with thousands of watts needed for sound levels in a small woofer hidden under the back seats.
Get the bass right and everything else falls into place.
Sorry I got caught up seeing this. I used to set up home systems as a hobby.
Just saying. This is why I prefer to listen to my engines in my truck and car.

That has been the great thing about Ford's. You could pretty much turn an XL into a Limited in your driveway if you wanted to. Everything is pretty much plug-n-play with a little tweaking in Forscan.

I am a little afraid that the 2024's wont be that way with how they have scaled back on options and everything.

Lincoln uses Revel which is Harmon, my subaru has Harmon. Least thing ford could do is use better sound systems in their main models

Ford's trick is to siphon popular options off to move up a trim level or restrict from Stand alone to certain packages so the loss of value with yearly price increases looks smaller. Like fewer potato chips in the same bag.

i used to do subs, Amps, head units and speakers but no longer care because my family is in there with me 90-plus% of the time and never wants it loud enough for me appreciate it. I have the standard alpine system, maybe 6-8 speakers. It is adequate. In another life I'd have put in a processor, 4 channel, high end components and maybe a 10 in the rear under-seat storage bin.

Not anymore, I'd spend all that money and never get to flex it. Now I'm happy with the upgraded factory screen. I left the full system in my 09 Tundra when I let it go. Didn't even want to pay to move it all over. The 10 I had in there had probably been bored AF for a few years.

My main irritation was no leather for all the money I spent. I think they started adding it to one of the Sport xlt packages the year after I got mine.

B&O is also Harman. The amp/DSP in my truck says manufactured by Harman right on it.

So is JBL, Infinity, Mark Levinson, and a bunch of other brands.

Yup, there's one guy on the F150 forum who bought a 5.0 Regular cab, supercharged it, and basically made it into a Lariat with features. Even added the ToD transfer case to it for 4 Auto.

I figured I should snag a 23 since the prices on the 24s went up and there are some things I don't like about them. Forced larger storage bin option, for example, and only a black appearance package - no regular sport appearance package. I'm not big on black wheels, I like the dark gray non-glossy ones this truck and my last one had.

Then maybe they should do some acoustic research before throwing these into mass produced vehicles. I'm sure the audi B&O system, bmw, Mercedes etc is light years beyond the sound produced in similar systems found in ford or other vehicles. I'm sure they are piecing lower end components throwing names on them and calling them something else.
