    I'm wanting to change transmission fluid on a 2013 Tundra 5.7 4X4. Does anyone have any instructions for this. I plan to drain the pan, then fill transmission back and remove the cooler return line, start the truck and drain fluid then refill a few times until I get most old fluid out. My question is getting the truck into transmission temperature monitoring mode to check the level of fluid. I have seen that people have posted that you can jump between terminals 4 and 13 on the OBD2 and get the truck into transmission temp monitoring mode where the "D" light will come on after temperature reaches desired temp to check level. Has anyone done this and will it work on the 2013 year model? Dealer wanted to do a power flush for $299, however I contacted Toyota and the person I talked to said they don't advise doing a flush under any circumstances, only do a drain and fill. Thanks

    This has been discussed before on here with @LOTSOFTOYS and we came to the conclusion, i think, that you should just drain and flush.
    I have no idea about the mods to be able to see temp and fill level. Sorry.

    Calibrated Power 5 Tune pack, Allison 1000 tune, PPE deep trans pan, Cold/Hot CAC pipes, Banks CAI, PCV reroute, resonator delete, S&B 62 gal fuel tank, B&W GN hitch
    Per the maintenance manual:

    30k miles: check level, trans sensors and function. Toyota did this for me free of charge.

    60k miles: same as 30k unless you fall under special operating conditions. Then it is time for a drain and fill.

    This was 7 qts and cost me 199.00 out the door for this service

    90k miles: same as 30k service

    120k miles: same as 60k mile service.

    Never flush a transmission, that is for toilets. Service transmissions. I have a friend in TX that has his own shop for 30+ years and has told me about some of these flushing machines. That was just scary. He also told me to drain the pan once a year, new filter, add fluid and you will be good to go.

    Now with our trucks and not having a dip stick to check level, I would just go off what Toyota recommends. This also happens to help with warranty work in the slim chance the transmission fails. There have been people denied warranty work due to missing the 30/60/90k transmission checks. To be honest, it should be denied if one neglects the vehicle.

    Pretty much everyone who owns a truck falls under the 60k interval. Especially here in co. Mtn driving, towing etc... 60k drain and fill and call it good

    I'm glad you think so (and I agree with you). My dealership closest to me says not to do anything to the transmission until 120K miles. I actually had to fight with them about doing the 60K drain and fill. I will do it again at 90K. Not sure I will use the Toyota dealership though.

    I talked to Toyota while I was in for getting my gears swapped. 60k is the mileage on doing the trans fluid CHANGE. They said absolutely DO NOT FLUSH. Drain it and filler back up. Pretty simple.

    Next on the to do list then fluids are all "did".

    Am a bit skeptic and lost in that forums discussion how to change. Is it that way for a 2nd gen, 08, 5.7??

    Am doing a pre-pull on the bolts, and the hex is on the verge of snapping with no sign of loosening....

    Sprayed plug with liquid wrench
    Drove about 13 miles to get pan warmed
    Applied vice-grips and
    BANG!!!!!! Off she came.

    I will have to order a new plug....

    Surgery next week

    Glad you're winning, even if a bit delayed. :thumbsup:

    I have to work up the ambition to do this myself one of these days very soon, I'm going all out with a DIY "flush" and replacing the strainer too.

    Valvoline max life full syn trans fluid meets all Toyota ws requirements says right on the bottle and cost's much less. That's what I use since I get it free at my shop
