It's about time to put in a new battery into wifey's Q7. Of course, just like our old BMW, the battery is not under the hood. Instead, to get to the battery, I need to remove the driver's seat. Putting it in the engine bay must have been too easy. Germans and their OCD engineering/organizational skills. Weeeee!

This is why I stay away from German cars, it's not worth the hassle. I had a VW GTI in my younger 20's and while it was fun to drive, it was a freaking hassle to do anything with.

Lol. I still haven't seen the battery on the wife's car. They hid it somewhere.

I had the same issue with my Mercedes.... under the back seat!

Not a good place, in my opinion.

Nice to have a ton of space under the hood of the Tundra

I helped a neighbour replace the battery in his Dodge Journey a couple years ago. They put it inside the left end of the front bumper, so you had to pull the wheel and a section of the inner fender liner to access it.

I was shocked, since a minor front end collision could easily crush the battery and cause much bigger issues.:boom:

My first car was a 1973 VW Super Beetle. The battery was under the back seat. The first time I drove the car to college, I had the back seat loaded up with most of my stuff as the "trunk" didn't have a lot of space. It's the beginning of my junior year... excited to see my friends... park in front of the dorm and go up to the third floor where our apartment was. Lots of handshakes and back slaps as I reunite with my buddies. One of my roommates says... "Hey Matthew... what kind of car do you drive?" I tell him the Beetle parked out front. He says "You mean the one that's on fire?" I look out the window... smoke IS POURING OUT THE OPEN WINDOWS of my car. I fly down the stairs... rip open the door... fling all my shit out of the back seat... realizing the smoke is coming from under the seat I rip out the back seat ( very easy to do in those cars) and find that I had so much weight over the battery that the metal springs had connected the positive and negative terminals of the battery. It heated them up so much that they were glowing red and melted part of the springs off and were melting their way into the battery. I wrapped my hand in a shirt and grabbed the piece of metal off the battery as my buddies fell over laughing at me. Crisis mostly averted... but let me tell you my car stunk for weeks after that!

There are a few American cars with the battery hidden under the rear seat. As in the neighbors 05 Buick Le Sabre....

German Cars are fun to drive. No doubt their technology is different and complicated. There is no comparison when it come to handling and performance. There is a reason they have autobahn and we don't.

I have driven on the highways (or Autobahn) in Germany and I wasn't impressed. Same f-tards that pull out in front of you or won't get over into the right lane. We did get up to 130 mph for about 4 minutes though. Guess that was cool.
