Oh yes there is when it’s not being manipulated. Old vs new. In most cases the new offerings are usually profitable to make and not unusual to have an introductory offer, not on an unprofitable offering that the government has to offer a bribe to buy with taxpayers money. The free market always rules the day when allowed to.

IMHO government incentives should go away. If a private company misjudges supply and demand and needs them to move product, so be it.
I don't think it's inferior, I think it has the normal limitations of an EV exacerbated by pickup truck duty. Then you ask, what is the most cost efficient way to beat it. Squeeze a few more miles of range out of a typical EV design stuffing in a bigger more expensive battery?

Or do a Ram or Powerboost design that incorporates a gas engine and gives 600-plus miles of range and 10 minute fillups?

The capability is there to do better on pure EV but when government money is not tilting the playing field the better business decision seems to be to improve designs that incorporate ICE.

If the government takes money out of your pocket and spends it to promote its preferred outcome and succeeds most of the time in counteracting the market's wishes this is not proof the free market doesn't work or doesn't exist.

LOL. A free market can't survive without advertising and marketing. Business 101. Who's going to make something or offer a service and not market it? As in "free market"?

Doesn't mean it's effective or has a superior cost/benefits analysis. Not to go far off the rails but I believe combining the limits of pure EVs with our energy policy trends leads to people having significantly less travel freedom if this "trend" continues to "accelerate." EVs are not inherently a bad concept. The scale and speed at which we're pressed to adopt them combined with the direction of our energy policy is the problem. The government does not see this as a problem because it will not affect government officials the way it will affect the rest of consumers, which is always the problem with government counteracting free markets and trying to pick preferred outcomes.

Another example is healthcare. There are solid arguments to be made that government counteracting the free market in health care has driven insurance and care prices up significantly in the last 80 or so years. Most consumers don't see that connection. Government's role in healthcare is now seen as a normal fact of life and it's an accepted fact that free markets created the affordability problem, and moving back in that direction would make it worse. We accept and pursue more government controls and central planning, then get confused by watching things get worse, and double down yet again.

People in the govt view EV’s as national security because the 25 year old staffers for politicians actually believe in the mythical threat of climate change.

They were just demonstrating what Congress does to the taxpayer every day.

I've had too many problems with Chrysler products long before they were bought out by Fait then merged with Puegot to form Stellantis.

Also forgot, my Challenger RT 6 speed
Had had a problem with occasionally sticking in gear for some time before I traded it. Like 1st or 2nd, would really lock in there and I'd have to put on the parking brake and turn it off to pop it out.

Boy was I sweating it watchching the carmax Appraiser drive it but it behaved for him. Known issue having Something to do with improper grease on transmission splines on some cars from factory but the dealer could never duplicate while in warranty and it started towards the end of factory coverage.

geico extended coverage was about to expire so after 6 years of fun I figured time to cut ties. Otherwise problem free for 6 years and a whopping 35k. But "cannot duplicate" was a common phrase I heard in the two Dodge/Chrysler/ whatever branded vehicles I owned 20 years apart. That and my 04 Dakota were the Only two vehicles I had where I had to ride shotgun with a master tech.

Got a great grasp on that already. I lived overseas for over 7 years and traveled extensively. I highly recommend to visit a wet market in Manila sometime, a shopping mall in Gwangju, or a outdoor bazaar on Sundays in Hiroshima. Kuul beans

But why is a company saying "we have this product available for you to buy from us" (yes I'm aware marketing is more than that) an "exterior influence"?

Hope it works out for you, but Toyota's are the best and most reliable vehicles on the road. And it's been my experience that the worst in quality and reliability are the Dodge brand.

Sure. I am currently being manipulated. By email right now. I don't mind I'm interested.
Until I get enough info and I determine if its the right product for me. The new Tundra was no different - started with email.

You should watch "Bank of Dave" on Netflix. Have you seen it?

So right now the Canadian Banks are offering discounts on fixed term mortgages.
They want to lock you in to the high rates, as they and everyone else is expecting rates to come down. And as a shareholder in one of the banks, this is what I expect them to do. I want them to increase the dividend, another stock split would be nice too. Something to offset what happened to Oil stocks. 8^(

Cummins to pay record-setting $1.675 billion US environmental fine

    https://www.reuters.com/business/au...out-204-bln-charge-fourth-quarter-2023-12-22/

they rigged the engines with devices that bypassed the pollution controls.

WASHINGTON, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Truck engine maker Cummins Inc (CMI.N) has agreed in principle to pay a $1.675 billion fine for installing devices on hundreds of thousands of engines to allow them to emit excess pollution, the largest-ever civil penalty for a Clean Air Act violation, the U.S. Justice Department said on Friday.
The Department said Cummins allegedly installed so-called "defeat devices" to bypass or disable emissions controls such as emission sensors and onboard computers.
The department said Cummins used defeat devices on 630,000 2013 to 2019 RAM 2500 and 3500 pickup truck engines and undisclosed auxiliary emission control devices on 330,000 2019 to 2023 RAM 2500 and 3500 pickup truck engines to cheat emissions control requirements.

Whatever this forum told me to do
remember when they got caught on the 3.0 ecodiesels?

and what happened when they got the ECU re-flashed? massive power drop.

will this happen to Cummins when they have to re-flash them?

    I think so.

That’s a percentage to make it to 250,000.
Two problems. Most owners NEVER plan to keep a truck to 250,000. Including most Tundra owners.
Also, obviously, that’s a prediction. Nobody really knows on the new GENS.
I won’t keep my Ram for that long. What I will say, it blows my Tundra and every other truck I’ve driven away. If mine is solid and reliable, I will absolutely entertain another one.

    “MOST LIKELY” isn’t “DATA”.

Also, if you think about the average mileage driven in a year, those trucks that have gone 250k miles are several generations old now.

My 1 year observations owning a 2023 Ram Rebel.
Long time Toyota owner. I still am with a 2020 Highlander that has been rock solid, minus a few software issues. Sold my 2017 Tundra for this Ram. I have never owned the new GEN Tundra and admittedly, the looks and early issues pushed me away. I will watch Toyota closely and how the Tundra evolves.
Things I notice about the Ram that makes me love it.
1.The cockpit. I love pretty much everything. The seats are comfy as hell. The buttons are well laid out. Everything seems very easy to navigate. The hood has a sweet design. It looks cool as you look out.
2.Auto 4WD mode. This option is handy as hell in Colorado.
3.Start/stop. It works flawlessly with the ETorque. I hate every other one. Not on the Ram.
4.Headlights. These things are bright, with excellent coverage. LED on all exterior is great.
    5.Storage under rear seat.
6.Driver experience. The Ram is an awesome truck to drive. Comfortable and predictable.
7.Transmission. The 10 speed transmission is by far, the smoothest shifting transmission I’ve owned.
8.Engine. The 5.7 Hemi is strong and sounds good. I have a 2022 Ford Explorer ST that’s my work vehicle and it will smoke my Ram but it’s just a different experience. I still love the V8.

Its been reliable to this point. If it treats me well, I will look at another down the road, but I would add the Ram boxes next go around.

I’m here in a Tundra because my 2019 Ram had so many problems.

    HVAC Blend doors
    Unconnect Failure
    Leaking 3rd Break light
    Leaking rear window assembly
    Power mirror motor failure
Trailer wiring Electrical Gremlin (constantly blowing fuses)
    Leaking Fuel Injectors
    Drive Shaft Start Slap/Thud

The ZF 8 speed trans was amazing and the design of the cabin is great. Other than that, nothing but headaches from my Ram.
