I recently purchased a new 2024 Platinum HV and coming from a Rivian R1T I'm unimpressed to say the least with the studder in the initial acceleration. I know throttle response controllers help a little with this, but the new HV models use of batteries make even the newer throttle response controllers void. Had anyone heard of or have a "fix" for the lack of response initially when you mash the gas? TIA.

    Did you try sport mode?

Oh yeah. Sport mode does offer plenty of power, but there's a noticeable lag in the time you put your foot in it to actual time of acceleration. I mentioned it to the salemen wondering if it was a HV thing, but the HV actually offers more horsepower and they said all Tundras are like that, both gas and hybrid 2024 models. Probably just need to be patient until these throttle response companies find a work around.

Yeah, I’m sure all those engineers that built the truck made it that way cause they just don’t want us to go fast…bastards

In my experience you’ll never find a gas hybrid truck with any throttle response even close to an all electric vehicle. There’s no way to produce 100% full torque on launch like an all electric can.

I dont understand why a throttle controller would not work just because its a hybrid. All the controller does is alter the throttle signal to the PCM to make it think you are pushing the pedal farther than you are

Sounds like you’re complaining about the transmission shifting or the engine turning back on. Of course an electric truck will have better response than a truck with a transmission.

Looking up Pedal Commander and others, the 2024HV version is not listed. I have an email into one of the companies asking this exact question.

That's possible, the lag could be trans related, but it's only on initial jumping on the throttle I noticed it. I realize the difference between an EV truck and a hybrid, but again the lag when hard acceleration is requested is noticable and if in anyway I can modify it is my ultimate goal.

You should read up on @rlc177 posts he logs data directly from his truck. It’s a common issue unfortunately but a lot of people are working on it. I test drove a 24 platinum hybrid and was surprised to find the issue in hybrids too I thought hybrids would have a smoother engagement.

Maybe, just maybe, “jumping on the throttle” is not good for the driveline and Toyota designed it this way. Paying money for these “fixes” like throttle controllers is just a way to fleece money from the ignorant and potentially damage your vehicle…also, get off my lawn!

Yeah don't get me wrong, there is plenty of power with the HV, but it's just not consistent across all deiving environments.

My brother just bought the rivian r1S quad motor (waited 18 months for it). He had an Audi s7. There is NOTHING that will compare to the launch and acceleration of an all EV. His rivian equated to something stupid like 850hp. It is an absolute rocket ship. I drive my wife’s hybrid rav4 for a week and getting back into the tundra made me feel the same way. Maybe you just got used to the instant acceleration from the rivian and lack of shift points and have to get used to not driving an all EV again

I've heard reports of Hybrids having the same issue. So its probably rooting in the transmission/shift logic.

The pedal is not mapped to the throttle at all, Its mapped to a request for torque and then the ECU/TCU figure out what gear and throttle angle (And Electric motor torque) is required for the requested torque.

Its actually a 3d table, and there is a 3rd factor of current speed. The requested torque at a given accelerator input will increase as speed increases.

Throttle controllers will not fix this problem because its not a matter of requesting more torque.

Throttle controllers will fix sensitivity issues (Like I need to mash the pedal more than I think) and yield quicker downshifts with less pedal input.

Sucks that 2024 is having the issues still sporadically so no hope that they ninja fixes in the new models.
