One factor in resale value is the cost of a new one. If new ones have seen big price increases they make used ones more attractive and pull them up as well. With the huge inflation in price past few years one has to think have hit a ceiling with truck prices. A $70k truck can't float to $85-90k in the next years. There are not 3m buyers that makers depend on annually to be profitable of full sized trucks in the $80-100k range with current interest rates.

Probably said on here already there was a list of predictions about COVID traditions and habits that would stick after things opened up that I never believed and this was on it. "Lot inventory is a thing of the past, they'll have a few demos then you'll special order everything." A couple Ford dealers told me this.

Yeah right, sure. As much as you fantasize about operating like exotics manufacturers forever there's No way you'll be able to meet your union labor obligations restricting supply that much. Things may stay tighter than pre COVID for awhile but lot inventory was always going to come back. The domestics would lead the way then the imports would have to do it too because one manufacturer can't have a special order only system while another has an average of 30 vehicles in dealer inventory to pick from.

Agree and realize driving 41k + for about 10k plus expenses was not so awful..

Just of note, they rated it excellent so that did have an impact.

I'm in rural NW Virginia. The closet Toyota Dealer is kind of small but they have three '24 Tundras on the lot and a bunch of Tacomas. The Tundras are marked down 3-4k under SRP.

The local Jeep/Dodge Ram dealer shows the following on their lot:
    71 Gladiators
    68 Grand Cherokees
    29 Wranglers
    33 Ram trucks

The local Ford dealer shows 113 new Ford trucks in inventory on their lot.

All this compared to lots that were basically empty 12 months ago.

2 of the closest Toyota dealers to me claim to have over 80 Tundras on their lots combined. 40 and 40. Both show pictures for 30+ of them. Drove by one yesterday and yeah I would say those numbers are accurate. That dealer has a huge overflow lot that I am curious to see how many are hiding there. The 3rd local dealer shows about 75 tundra's, but they never put pictures of them online anymore and I havent driven by them in a while. They also dont show whats in transit or on the lot either. $2-6k off msrp across the entire state dealership wise.

The local Ram dealers has had 50+ 1500's on the lot for like a year at least. $10-16K off msrp.

Havent paid attention to the local chevy or ford dealers.

Real curious to see what the first half of 2024 brings deal wise for all the Tundras that are sitting.

I think it more has to do with all the configurations and add on packages the Tundra comes in. Instead of one model and standard packages it comes with multiple configurations across various models. So a limited can be configured with trd or without anc with hybrid or without. The only one that will hold its value the best is the trd pro.

Is this Malloy or much further west than north? At Malloy when last there they had markups on all Pros and some on a few other unusual spec units.

Yep, Malloy. It wouldn't shock me if they were playing with the numbers (as most dealers do) but on their website as of today they are showing 3-4k markdowns on all the in stock Tundras.

Malloy is terrible. They were one of the worst around here for markups.

For max value you should drive the truck for 5 years or 120 thousand miles and then sell it for 40k --- that is the true toyota value

True, though a distant second or so to the Tysons Corner dealer (Ourisman?) that was adamant they needed 75 k for a limited when i was shopping. Purchased in Nashville due to the “wealth tax” dealers near Northern Virginia want to charge.

True. They will be trying to kill everyone when the new Tacoma gets here. I tell everyone to remember that these vehicles are production vehicles, not special or rare editions that they only make a few of. Shop around, your money is valuable.

Where in Nashville? I haven’t been happy with too many dealers around here so far.

Beaman of Nashville. Really good no nonsense experience. No attempt to upsell extended warranty or any paint protection, mudflap adds ect. I rented car and drove 8 hours down and was out of dealership in 45 minutes.

(tempted to try a Tacoma build to see what they say!)

Mcgeorge Toyota in Richmond sold at MSRP all the way through everything. I have bought a many of new Tacomas, 4 Runners and a Tundra from them. Too bad they have sold out to Ourisman. I haven’t been by there since they sold. I plan on getting me a new Tacoma before I retire in a few years. I won’t have the need for a full-size truck. I may get one before that once they work the bugs out. They look really good.

Thank you. I know they were the only dealer around town during Covid that wasn’t marking up vehicles. The issue was they had a long waiting list for allocations
