Have a few cameras connected to my Synology NAS. The free surveillance product isnt bad. Can configure detection zones and times. Set patrol routes for cams with motion. Some other basic features.

No subscription (1 time purchase license fee to connect more than 2 cameras, per camera.)

I get vid on my phone app. can move the cameras around, get sound, get motion detection.

This is just because I am a bit overboard...
On a separate product from the same company, I pay a small subscription fee to upload vids to the cloud from my nas. so they can be recovered in case of loss of the recorder. (all systems suffer this vulnerability)

Those cameras are not the best quality. My last system was very similar.

    Too many, but not enough....
I have ADT for door sensors and glass break. I would recommend. Very affordable at 35 bucks a month. No issues and their app is great. I have cameras all over the house, inside and out. I use Geeni. Very reliable and affordable and has all the features I need. Also simple to install and app is also great. There are options to pay for cloud but SD cards are enough for me.

You want a system that uses POE (Power Over Ethernet) for the connection between the camera and nvr.

    Dont entertain anything else.
