I have a 2010 Tundra 5.7 SR5. I had a SAIS failure and went into limp mode. I cleared the codes, and all is working again for the last few thousand miles. I purchased the Hewitt Gen 2 kit and plan to install just to be safe. I also have a coolant leak in the dreaded heat exchanger cover. Getting ready to pull the trigger on that repair and plan to install the Hewitt kit while the intake manifold is off for easy access to the wire harness connections on the air valves. Since my intake manifold will be off, is there another location to install the blocking plates near the air valves behind the manifold? This would be more accessible than at the exhaust and don't have to deal with rusted broken stud bolts.

Call them, they can best answer your question. They're really very willing to help with questions in my dealings with them.

I spoke with Hewitt. They said the block off plates can be installed at the air injection valves. I may go that route if there are no clearance issues.

The plates can go on either side of the tube, but I believe the flange sizes or bolt patterns are different between the two. So, some modification may be necessary. As a visual guide, here is a shot of the injection valves that are under the intake, where the plates go is circled in red. The intake is fairly easy to remove aside from the two wire clips you see at the top of this picture with '25' on them. You might also be able to install the plates from under the truck, but would be easier from the top.

Thanks for the pic. Is that your Tundra? Did you have a SAIS problem?

Yes, that's mine. No problems, I removed the system before it became a problem. I got the full kit from Hewitt with the sensors to replace the valves.

Since I will have my intake manifold off for the coolant leak repair, is there anything else I should consider replacing while I'm there?

Maybe the PVC valve since it would be easy to get to...but not necessary.

If your valves aren't stuck open you don't need blocking plates just install the bypass and they don't open anymore

I have considered this option. Thanks for the reply.
