There is information regarding Fortin's Evo One here and there but no dedicated thread so I thought I would create it.

I had always wanted remote start on the Tundra. There are many options but thought I'd give some quick descriptions of pros and cons between the different systems.

    • OEM Remote Start
      • PROS
        • Plug & Play - no wiring to cut/splice
      • CONS
        • Truck shuts off when you open the door(s).
        • Range limited to key fob range
    • Viper/Clifford Systems
      • PROS
        • Plenty of features & Can include a complete security system with various sensors
        • Can use Smart Start to start your vehicle from your phone
        • Excellent Range
      • CONS
        • Requires a lot of wires to be cut/spliced
        • Can be costly depending on how many features you add
    • Fortin Evo One
      • PROS
        • When purchased with the T-Harness, there are only about 7 wires that need to be cut and/or spliced. Very minimal!
        • Uses factory key fob to start truck
        • Can add RF remote to extend range(Plug and play)
        • Cost, can be had for less than $200
        • Canbus connection
        • Can add sensors to it(shock sensor etc)
      • CONS
        • None that I can think of

So I opted with the Fotin Evo One due to all the PROS I read about. And the pricing is excellent also so that never hurts.

I purchased the following from this eBay user since he flashes the modules for free prior to shipping them out. That saves me money not having to buy the flash tool.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fortin-RF642W-2-Way-RF-Kit-for-EVO-ONE-3500ft-Range-TWO-WAY-RF-642W/291593432512?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I have already installed the remote start and the installation was super simple. I took my time soldering the wires that I cut and using poitaps on anything that requiring a tap. I cleaned up the wiring and tie strapped everything. This was my first time ever installing an alarm or remote start and it took me 3 hours. Super simple install. If you know how to install an aftermarket stereo, you can install this. Highly recommended.

    **********************************************************************************************************************************

UPDATE - Fortin seems to make a new harness to make this a plug and play kit with the exception of 1 wire! Input your year and it will show you if its an option.

Parts list for anyone that wants to install this:
    1. Evo-one all in one remote starter with THAR-ONE-TOY2 T-Harness
      • Make sure it has a T-Harness for pain free install
      • Make sure it's pre flashed if you don't want to purchase a flashlink
    2. Fortin RF642W 2-Way RF Kit
      • Optional if you want increased range(3500ft) and 2-way confirmation
      • Plug & play install - only 1 cable
    3. Fortin Flashlink2
      • Optional if you don't purchase an Evo-one that isn't pre-flashed for your vehicle
      • Also good if you want to toggle different options on/off
    4. Positaps
    5. Soldering Iron
      • Optional for dependable connections
    6. Shrink Tubes and/or electric tape
    7. Liquid electric tape

Looks like a nice product, seems people really like it.

Is there a time limit for how long the truck will run once remote started? I often have a dog or two with me in the back seat area, would love to be able to have the truck running and locked up secure at the same time with AC or Heat running while I make a quick run into a store, something stock won't allow.

Random question, if the EVO unit simply dies/quits working, is the truck dead and won't start? Or do you just lose the remote start feature?

    Thanks!

Mine is set to max at 15mins. If you buy their long range RF remote you can reset the run time anytime.

It depends on how it dies. It does interrupt the starter so there is a chance it won't start just like any other alarm.

Thanks for the answers! It sounds like this adds all the functions I need. I'm just gun shy of having an aftermarket device that can kill my entire truck if it malfunctions/dies.

Toyota has it's reliability for a reason and it's why I bought an arguably dated truck ha (compared to Ford/Chevy/Dodge); adding this basically reduces my Toyota to the reliability of Fortin. None of my other mods have such a direct impact. I simply don't know if I trust Fortin this much.

I was in the same boat as you. Totally agree. Make sure you buy the T harness. And if it ever messes up all you have to do is remove the T harness and your back on the road!

@BlueBottle I have been researching this alarm for the last few weeks. You are right, I couldn't find much details about it. I m sold on it since it pretty much has all the functionalities that I need. Questions for u if u can help.

    1. Long range RF remote will have to be another key fob that we will have to carry? Reason I like it as it works w factory key fob. I don't like to carry two fob. Hell I don't even like to carry one fob. I see finger print reader and remote start w smart phone feature in future somewhere.

    2. Does it beep when locking or unlocking the truck.

    3. Can you control lights with the remote? Dome light, Headlights etc.

I think this uses the factory alarm and ties in for remote start function.

    1. Not sure
2.If your truck currently has the beep turned on when locking/unlocking with the remote, then yes. Mine starts with 3 pushes of the lock button, so it beeps once with each push. It will then beep twice (because it disarms the alarm), the truck will start, and it will beep once (because it activates the alarm again).
    3.Not to my knowledge

I'm not sure if you're able to do it through the head unit, but you can do it through techstream for sure.

    1. Long Range RF remote will replace your oem remote. So you won't have to carry that one anymore. New one will lock/unlock and remote start the vehicle.

    2. Not sure. I am receiving it on Tuesday and will update you with results. I am assuming it will still function how the existing vehicle is setup.

    3. I don't think so. I am sure you can add another module to activate it with one of the aux outputs but not out of the box.

On my truck, I can activate/deactivate it through me entune vehicle settings screen. I know you can do it through techstream also.

Yep, Techstream. The dealer should have no problem doing that for you.

Interesting, I wonder if thats a Platinum only setting.

Just tested and you're right. I didn't know that.

Installed the RF long range 2-way remotes. It was very much plug and play. Took me longer programming the remotes than anything!

New remote can lock/unlock doors. Remote start truck. Extend running time. Shut off truck. And also can control two aux relays to do other stuff. In addition having the RF remotes let you program the brain without having the flash tool.

All in all it is worth it. I don't need to carry the stock fobs anymore and I have long range, two way communication.

So all in all I can say I recommend it.

One thing i noticed with the RF remotes is that when I unlock the truck, it sends a double unlock unlocking the driver then the rest of the doors. This is with a 1x click on the unlock button. Anyone out there have any RF remotes on their fortin care to share if it does the same? Wondering if there is something in the programming to change that.

How does the rf remote give you feedback, when you unlock, lock, start engine or turn off engine? Any risk of accidentally unlocking the doors with the key in your pocket?

With the LED on the remote and it also beeps. Green led means vehicle recheive it. Red led means it did not. When remote starting you get a green led and ascending melody.

It's not easy to press the buttons in your pocket but it very well can be possible. There is a lock feature you can activate by pressing two of the buttons simultaneously if you want.

So I received my Flash Tool today. I checked my Evo One Programming and i found that driver door priority was not enabled. Enabled that. Put the unit back in the truck, and it is now behaving just like the factory remote! 1 click driver door unlock only, 2nd click rest of the doors. So if anyone else has the same issue, that is the fix.
