Got a call my truck was ready to pick up, (From the Toyota Dealership) service tech tells me everyone looks good, and then right before i hang up he mentions there was a “Snafu”. Apparently the safety arm broke( according to him something he had never seen in twenty years)while my truck was on the lift, and put a massive dent right below my rear passenger door???

I came to pick it up and was pretty pissed, they are having me bring it back for a week in January, and giving me a loaner for the week, and covering all of the costs
I was really worried about frame contact or other damage if the truck was as flopping around on the lift. i poked around pretty good to look for other damage, didn’t notice anything else, but according to them it’s only body damage. Also requested i need a truck as the loaner.

would you guys be worried about other damage?

I wouldn't be worried about other damage, but I think you'd be in the right to have it inspected by another mechanic if you want.

    Nitrogen filled tires!
That sucks but I have seen worse first hand. Picked my buddy up after he left his off at the "tire shop" for snow tires. Made it half way to work and he got a call to return to the shop. They dropped it off the lift on it's nose. Tires looked nice - but the front end was toast. He got new tires and a new car but it took three months using me as his shuttle!

Dropped my old Chevy off for an oil change at the dealer once and they said it slide while driving on lift and smashed rear panel pretty good but they took care of everything. Hopefully Toyota will do the same.

Eh, not sure there. It would depend on your relationship with the service advisor and/or management. If it were my truck I would just let them handle it.

I’m testimony for sliders…the rear end of my original passenger side running boards (which attach to the body and not the frame like sliders) bent up when I bottomed out offroad. Same place.

I had a shiny black Mercedes convertible. No scratches or dings. It was mint. It was being serviced at the dealership. The mechanic raised the lift to high and crushed the hood. They sent it to a body shop for repair. A year later it was back for service. What are the odds lightning strikes twice? In this case very good. Same thing happened again and the same tech. They fired him of course. I am dead serious. Pretty funny now but then not so much. :)

Any chance of a diminished value claim? I am sure if you brought it in as a trade they would say it had a history and ring you up on it.

A good body man can fix that.
Mine was not that bad but I also had a dent in that corner of the bed. They put their best two guys on it, the body guy and the painter. They had it a good while but it is as good as new.

it sucks that people do not respect others property, not paying attention that is how accidents occur!!!

My wife called me at work once about my Honda Ridgeline. It was at the dealer for warranty paint work. It got totaled on the way back from the body shop...& never any police report filed...Their insurance company cut me check and the owner of the dealership, who I contacted about why it was taking so long to settle this, and was unaware of anything, also cut me a check for my troubles.....
