Sometimes on the bike i get way out in the sticks along a string of unnamed/unnumbered roads... just sorta follow em until i start seeing signs again...usually not enough signal for my gps while out there.

Like in Charlotte where every street is a variation of Queens or Sharon...
Infact, Queens Rd intersects Queens Rd W. Worse, Sharon Rd intersects Sharon Rd W and also intersects Sharon Ln and intersects Sharon View.

Yes, I just love having to clarify, like with Midtown for example ...

    Is that West Peachtree?
    Peachtree Rd Ne?
    Peachtree Place Ne?
    Peachtree Sircle Ne?
    (I'm sure there are more)

It's almost easier to just describe landmarks than to breakdown which Peachtree Street.

I mean, with Midtown specifically that's becoming more-hard.

I have pictures taken while rounding the bend into Midtown from the I-75/I-85 fork from 2004-2005 from an old phone. Back then, you could just say, "the blue square building, the brown pointy building, the white pointy building".

I recently was coming into town around mid-day and got blinded by the glare of new buildings while driving that same path in 2004-2005. It's a sea of buildings, an entire skyline from 17th down to North Ave with no empty spots. Varsity and the building sharing its northern border look out of place at this point, and even with how iconic the Varsity building is, it's found in almost every driving-capable game (including GTA!), I'm sad to know that little piece of history will likely get bulldozed before 2030, replaced with another skyscraper.

I'd move down closer to where you or @abcinv are, but at the rate things are going, 10-15 years from now when I'm sailing through my 60s (if I live that long), the city will have already engulfed it. Please like Jonesboro and Newnan will be a suburb of the city similar to how Decatur has been for many decades. When you're driving "in the city", people are gonna need to clarify "Peachtree City", like, "Wait - which Peachtree in the city, or are you talking about the suburb?"

We also have streets that change name depending on what side of an intersecting hwy you are on, as mentioned before with telephone road. 45 also divides Airport blvd and college avenue... Same street then becomes Spencer hwy. It's madness.

@Mr.bee should be familiar with a similar problem east of Houston with Red Bluff being two different roads with the same name, within a few miles of each other.

My area is already exploding with new apartments, town homes and fluff to just take land.

We had a new breakfast place open up nearby that's charging $30 for 1 red velvet waffle and 3 fried Chicken tenders. That's a sign that things are about to get bad over here. It was also $7 for a small tea cup of cheese grits. Waffle House will always win in that department for me.

Haha your right, MI is not the best state for a salvage yard. I was just dreaming of having a couple parts trucks even if just for myself.

Allen genoa --> genoa redbluff --> canada --> east blvd.

My area does the same. 3351 is marked 3160 on most digital maps & the sign from i10, but all the signs elsewhere & paper maps call it 3351.

A little bit of retail apocalypse going on out there now too. At least up here they are slashing prices, running sales like there is a panic... (sales slump). Adds up with a graph I saw that showed (year over year) less money physical, in circulation than during the great depression....

Stupid fun fact: have you ever noticed that all North South roads are odd numbered, and East West roads are even? (For the most part, i'm sure there are exceptions)

My experience with insurance has always been that the intention of it is to get you back to where you were before whatever incident happened.

Let me see if I am understanding this with even, easy to use numbers. Feel free to correct me.

    Scenario A:
    • Say my truck is valued at 10k. If damages amount to 70% = 7k, the vehicle is totaled. This means that they refuse to fix it, but that they are willing to buy the truck from me for 10k. Ok, Deal.
    • Her insurance gives me 10k and they now own a truck with 7k in damages.
    • Now I say, I will buy that truck back from you for an unknown amount, guessing 3k (10k-7k damage)?
      • Correct me if I'm way off base on that salvage amount.
    • So now I own my exact same truck back, with 7k extra in my pocket to fix the damage, but now it has a salvage title.
      • Texas has a 6.25% vehicle sales tax. Does this need to be paid on both my sale to them, and then their sale to me?
    • So now I spend that 7k to fix the truck that I just bought back, but now it has a salvage title.
Theoretically now I am back to the exact same spot I was before correct? No, in my eyes, I am not. Now I own a truck with a salvage title which means if I ever want to sell it, that it’s worth less than before. Shouldn’t I be entitled to some type of diminished value amount? Because of their policy holders negligence, my “theoretically exact same truck” that I was driving before is now worth less to any potential future buyers.

Maybe this is where I made a mistake but I have already started the claim process through her insurance. Right now everything seems to be in a holding pattern pending release of the police report stating her fault.

To be honest, I never did and still don't have any intention of ever getting rid of this truck. I don't see it as an investment to make money off of. So a part of me doesn't mind it being branded a salvage. The other part of me wants to ensure that if it does get branded, that I will be fairly compensated for that since someone else was entirely responsible for that happening.

If you are not looking to go the salvaged title route then use the option that I provided. Insurance estimate (pre-disassembly), take to shop as a customer pay and cancel the insurance claim, fix the vehicle and pay the difference left from what the insurance check covered.

"My experience with insurance has always been that the intention of it is to get you back to where you were before whatever incident happened." - This is and is not really the case. They have to get your vehicle back to "pre-accident" condition but that is a gray area for them. You will not get OEM parts if your vehicle is older than 2 years for most insurance companies (unless you have an all OEM policy and you file through your own insurance). So yes it will be repaired but the insurance will factor used (LKQ) and aftermarket parts so it wont really be back fully, if you care about part brands.

The salvage title route is the most "scarring" on the vehicle record but the police report will already be uploaded to carfax. Insurance only pays out diminished value on repaired vehicles, not total losses as you are getting the value of the truck paid to you. (some states don't even have laws for diminished value). The salvaged title route is also the more complex and time consuming.

Every company has a different salvage %.

IIRC the salvage value for my truck was $1400 and some change.

No tax as its not a "sale". Its an insurance claim payout. They will also prorate your registration, and reimburse you for the remaining time on it.

You could get a lawyer involved and fight for diminished value, but no one is forcing you to retain the truck. Likely you will end up worse off than you were before legal fees.

If resale value is a concern for you just take the total loss and start truck shopping.
Put together a spreadsheet of trucks within 500 miles in similar condition/mileage/year/mods and use this to negotiate the value of the truck. They are required to make you whole, and giving you 10k for a truck that you cant replace for 15-20 isn't that. Time is on your side with this. They want to get the claim closed asap for as little payout as possible.

Fine print: I only speak from personal experience. I am not an expert. Please don't shoot the messenger.

I may be fixated on one small part of this reply, but say I have a bent LCA and the ball joints are trash. Are you saying that since she has some fly by night, no name insurance, its likely that they will only pay to the amount required to replace both with some Mevotech (or whatever) trash? Even though its well documented that those parts are junk?

You haven't made a mistake at all.

The claim is fine. You want to get that first check from them to help with your own "customer pay" repairs. The problem will be once you drop off at a shop, have it disassembled through the insurance claim. That's when the total loss determinations will be made and you will then have a fully disassembled truck that will need to be towed out of you keep it as a salvage repair.

Getting the initial estimate completed by the insurance company is fine and will get you a check to help you repair the vehicle without scarring it's title. Just let the insurance estimator know that you don't want it to total and they usually work with you to write it below threshold (again, pre-disassembly).
