Most of the fishermen I know keep the rods in the interior of the truck. I don't blame them as the rod/reel combos they are using are big money.

The only problem with using a pipe as storage is the if you put anything in it that is shorter than the full length it will be right in the middle when you want to access it. Much bigger problem in 3-4 inch size.

They sell nice aluminum caps that have a provision for a pad lock.

Has everything I would want. And I'd need to refinish it anyway because it doesn't match. Someone could have one hell of a score right there. Bargain barrel pricing if you're near the KY/WV state line and have a DC.

Are the rack rails something that can be added, or are they ordered that way from the factory because of the need to reinforce the fiberglass?

It was a company called "Wildernest". the top opened up like a clamshell and there is a tent that erects. Pretty cool. I don't think they're made anymore.

but 80" is a bit too long. But while researching on expedition portal i found a guy who'd had his tent section rebuilt by another company.

Sales took in a 17 A/C Taco on trade with a Leer top. I measured it for fun. So excited to find the length at 78", so disappointed to find the width at 63"

I’ve seen pvc with some foam that looked like pipe wrap for a big assed pipe jammed in there with cutouts for the reels. With the reels dropped down in their little cut outs the rods couldn’t slide around.

If anybody is in Florida and wanting a soft top. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not one to judge.

Parenthetically--and apologies if this is "hijacking"--can anybody here with a Leer camper tell me where the serial number plate is located? I ended up picking up that black topper I posted a while back. Fit perfectly and was in pretty good condition--only problem was, no keys. To order a new lock I need the serial number, but the previous owner did a very good job of carpeting the inside, including covering the serial number plate. I don't really want to tear up all the carpeting to find the plate. I actually emailed Leer but they said it would be "on the ceiling," which isn't very descriptive.

I just had to order new keys for my Leer Topper. No serial number needed. I just used the alphanumeric codes on the face of the locks, and ordered keys on Amazon. Not exactly the most secure system, but at least they lock. I'm sure you could do some "custom" lock job with a locksmith.

Yup, that info is back over here. 2nd set of bullets, 7th item.

On newer Leers like the 100R, 100XR and similar, it's normally on the driver's side, just inside the rear door.

You can see the right-hand rivet in the 1st pic here, you'll see it fully installed in 2nd pic (sometimes it gets removed if people carpet). Some older Leers (no outer flange/overhang) or longer Leers may have it a little farther forward like the 3rd pic. Some even older yet may have it a little further down on the rail like the 4th pic.

Thanks for the replies and photos--going to go out with a razor and check right now. If I can't find the serial number I'll just order new keys, but the lock was pretty janky, so if possible I'd like to get new hardware.

Notice how in the 2nd pic, there's almost a shelf in that spot. You may be able to feel that? I can hardly feel mine because someone carpeted it and did a great job on the roof, but the work got pretty shoddy as you get down and into the corners. Then they re-clamped it while the adhesive was still wet. But the carpet is one of those things ... You can't peel up part of it and blend it in, it's pretty one-shot. So I'm sorta stuck with it.

It's only worth what someone will pay for it. A buddy of mine recently picked up a similar model for $75. The seller had originally listed it at $500 and it hadn't sold in 5ish months.

    Jake Jakes pricing guide:

Do you want it gone? $free to $100

Do you want to wait (potentially forever) for the right buyer? $500+

Offer 250 and then use a piece of plexiglass to repair the door. They have the panels at HD, just have to measure and make sure they have one long enough.

I've decided i am going to have to cut a vent in the roof, but the fan is going to have to be removable, so i can open the back window, stand through the vent, and piss without putting shoes on. If the wind isnt cooperative, maybe i'll have a funnel or something.

I dont NEED a hitch tray, but it is a handy step, not too hard to find an excuse.

Why not just cut a hole in the bed and run a piece of PVC down.
