Power running boards - would you get them again?

Do you like your power running boards and would you get them again. I am looking at the ones from RC to replace the boards I have on now.

I have the amp steps for mine and honestly I do like them they work great and supports my barrel ass, however I think if they ever fail where it's gonna cost me money I'll go to a set of Westcott sliders

 

I have the amp steps as well. They are neat for about ten minutes, but then they’re loud and get in the way when washing. I’ve lost one end cap off each…replacements are enough to be annoying to buy. I’d go with one of the fixed options if I had it to do over.

 

I've had the AMP steps for 7 years. Would I purchase them again? Unless they improved the linkage arms and motor drive, probably not. They need constant maintenance, especially in winter, sometimes they work OK, sometimes partially, sometimes not at all...I've had to replace the motor drivers side, end caps, and the module under the hood. There have been times where I had to keep them in the down position by pulling the fuse, until I cleaned and lubed them...They still want you to use silicone spray on the hinges. If you decide get the plug and play... Customer service & warranty has been good though over the phone..

 

This is all very helpful. I was considering these running boards so my kids could get up in the truck easier, but I like the look without boards. I’ll get a $10 step stool for them instead lol.

 

Same. I found these helpful for my grandkids.

I have the ActionTrac steps and I love them, but they haven't been without issues. Luckily, the guy in the warranty dept has the same name so I call him up and say "Hey Charles, I've gotta problem with the passenger side board again." Another one shows up 3-4 days later.

 

I’ve had them for 2 years now. Really like them. No issues through 2 Chicago winters. Once they fail though I’ll probably just get regular boards.

 

I've had my Amp steps for several years.
Looking back and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have bought them.



I bought them for 2 reasons;
1. The cool factor.
2. To make it easier for my 5' wife to get in and out of the truck after my 2.5 lift level.
I don't use them to step in, I step right over them, but my wife uses them to get in and out.

Over the years they had gotten noisier, they've always had a loud 'clunk' going up and down.
I had to replace a gear on the driver's side after the teeth broke.
That part was $70 if I remember correctly.
The other hinges are starting to creak and no amount of silicone spray seems to prevent it.

The main reason I wouldn't buy them:
I've received more door dents than I did with the stock tube steps, I mean several.
I had 6 repaired a few years ago and already have about 8 more since then.
Even though I always park away from everyone else, it never fails some a-hole will park next to me and slam their door into my truck.
The tube steps stuck out enough to prevent these dents from careless idiots.
For that reason alone, I would have ditched my ugly OEM tube steps, and bought a better looking step or running board.



But if you do decide to get them, plan on upgrading the lights.
They provided you with little dinky led lights that suck.
I ended up replacing those with 4 aluminum LED bars that I painted to match.

Same story with the lights here. They sent ONE light (per side) that consisted of 3 LEDs and a projector lens. They fell apart within 6 mos. The LED strips I used instead have served me well for several years without a hitch and double up as sequential turn signals

 

I’ve had them 3 years on this truck and 8 years on the truck prior.
Never a problem with either set.
helps folks get in and out and for me saves wear on the drivers seat bolster.

 

I like them for the fact they give my wife and kids a step to use but disappear when the doors are closed. The “no running board look” makes the truck look more aggressive. That said, if I had to do it over again, I’d probably run some sliders. The AMPs were a PITA to install.

Oh, and if you get a set, don’t even bother with the lights. I threw mine away and haven’t regretted it.
