Hey guys, this is just a very general question regarding purchasing a used vehicle. I've never purchased one before and so I am not really sure how the process works. I bought my 2018 Tundra on black Friday just a few weeks ago from CarMax and paid all of the taxes and registration fees that were part of the sale. They gave me paper front and rear license plates that expires in Feb '24 but my question is... When or how am I supposed to get my permanent license plates? Am I supposed to do something? Go to the DMV? Last vehicle I purchased was my '02 Tacoma brand new from the dealer and don't really remember how long it took or if I had to do something extra.

The dealership where you bought the truck gives you temporary plates and then sends the official plates once they register the truck. Give CarMax a call

Congrats on the new rig... I'd imagine in CA you're probably looking at 60-90 days to get your plates; which is why they gave you a 90 day temp instead of 30 days

If it starts to get close and you don't have your plates yet, as stated already just hit up CarMax and they can check on it for you and even issues an extension on your temp if necessary!!!

2018, best year IMO (although I'm a bit biased). Bought mine new in January of 2018 and drives (and looks) like the day I drove it off the lot.

Best vehicle I've ever owned (and I've had a few since 1961).

I'm coming from my '02 Tacoma and learning a lot about the Tundras and am finding out that 2018 seems to have been the best year. If I'm not mistaken, it's when they first introduced the LED heqdpamps. Is it also the year they added the 38gal fuel tank? Or has that already been a thing prior to '18?

I think it was something like 2016 for the big tank but I'm not sure. Others here can answer this question accurately. I do have the 38 gallon tank as well as LED headlights which were first introduced on the 2018.

I got sooo lucky finding my used '18 with only 23k miles. TRD sport, color matched. Interior and engine bay are immaculate. :yay:

Gnarly! You will grow to really love this truck. Mine is 2wd also (no need for 4wd) but it came with the TRD Off Road Package that includes goodies that aren't on other option models. Handles like a sports car.

Same here, 2wd. I still got my 4wd Taco for all that. What's the differences between TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road packages? I have the Sport so is it only the scoop on the hood? I've got the sway bars n bilsteins.

Not sure. Toyota offers so many options and model packages I never investigated all of them. When I was preparing to go after the 2018 I studied all of the potential options and came up with a list of what I wanted. The dealer was really good at working with me but could only find two in California with my goodies list. One was in SoCal (I'm 2 hours north of San Francisco) and one was about 2 hours southeast of the dealer. They negotiate an exchange and that is the one I ended up with and I'm totally happy with it.
