agreed, we are on our way to that as well, paying off 30 year mortgage in 8, etc.

truck is under the business so thats a different deal than individuals.

No, but mine's a 2014 with the old 6 speed.

I almost never drive it now since picking up my Chevy Bolt 2.5 months ago, but I had a work trip this week and took it to the airport. After not having driven it in a few weeks, I was thinking about how good the truck drives at 115k miles. Its smooth, quiet, no rattles, etc. And thats with ~25k miles towing and a bunch of decent offroading. Its really well built truck and I am not sure I could get that out of a newer one.

Seems like the F150 is the way to go if you cannot get a 2.5 gen.

If I was retired and did not work nor get my mileage reimbursed, I would not have a vehicle payment. One vehicle of mine is paid off and has been for over 5 years. I guess it is all in how you look at it money markets right now are paying 4-6 percent with interest rates at 8-10 percent. I can make enough off money market to pay cash in full for my truck in 18 months. Trucks depreciate and by a lot which is why most business owners or people who use trucks for work depreciate them from 15-20k per year.

but using the example if I kept the mileage low and didn't get mileage reimbursed at the government rate then I would have a paid off truck and no put mileage on it. However, in some situations it just doesn't make sense especially if you make the majority of your income from truck usage.

Those are cute little Fords :D.

Personally, I love driving my 350, both around town and on long hauls. I think it rides nice and is very comfortable. But I'm also apparently the only person who likes how the 10-speed shifts and the window dip.....

the window dip in the Ford is actually useful, it allows you to see the side of the truck and out the window. You might have a small kid or people who just do not pay attention these days. I agree the real Ford trucks are the Superduty and up and the F150 Raptors all the rest are pretty much a waste. I do like my Tundra on a day to day use better than the Raptors I owned but they were great trucks as well. If I was to go Ford again it would definitely be in a F250 or F350. I also love the F650 those are like semis almost, Karl Malone and Shaq own one I believe.

F350 SRW will be my next truck, going to hold on to the 1/2 ton as long as I can though.

So far I'm pretty much in lust with this 7.3L. It pulls our trailer like a champ and is fun to drive.

About a month ago I had a 350 mile round trip for a meeting on a fairly hilly part of I-40 and according to the dash meter I averaged 16.5 MPG running 70-73 MPH. Not bad for an 7,500 lb truck with a 445 CID engine.

    Whoa! Even betterer!

That settles it: F350 rules all others. Will be my next truck.

That's going to be the dilemma, I'd prefer the diesel but don't want to deal with all the emissions BS.

Yep, that was my dilemma as well.

But after owning a few diesels and now this gas burner, I'll never own another diesel. If we towed really heavy that could possibly be a different story.

I'm wondering when Ford will slap an Ecoboost into the Superduty. 3.5 already has more torque than that 7.3, a 4.5-5 liter Ecoboost would be a monster.

The 7.3L is a totally different beast than past HD V8's. Its such a stout motor and it honestly feels like it makes more power than they say it does. My MIL had the detuned one with the 6 speed trans in her 14000 lb Class C motorhome and, even driving around at 8000' in Wyoming, it pulled strong.

The 7.3L is making almost 400 ft/lb by 1800rpms with a flat torque curve.

It lugs up hills almost like a diesel. I often find myself waiting for it to drop a gear on some hills and it never does.

I dont know if it really does have more torque. When I drove my MIL's 7.3L at 7000' in WY, it felt every bit as strong as my 3.5L even with the 3.5L being tuned slightly and the 7.3L down a bit on power due to the elevation. It really seems to be underrated to me. It might have had slightly less torque down low but its wasnt by much.

My truck and trailer GCWR are the same as here motorhome's GVWR but her motorhome was taller and maybe wider than my trailer. I can tell you that she would get better MPG than me consistently. We did several trips where we drove the same route at the same time and she would be bombing and get 10-11 mpg while I would be down around 9.

Well it's 475 vs 500 on paper so not a huge differential anyway.

I think the 7.3 got a bump now and is 485.

But thats also on 87 octane. Im not entirely sure the Ecoboost makes 500 on 87. The HO motor makes 510 ft-lbs on premium fuel but then the regular one makes 500 on 87? That seems strange to me.

Oh nice, I wonder if they always had them or just for 2024? I drove a 2005 f-150 (crew cab lariat fx4) for 10 years and it was a great truck, never gave me any problems until the motor let go at 155k…I wasn’t very nice to it tho, with better maintenance I think it would have lasted longer.

I think the Torsen is fine as well. Definitely a great time to be alive for trucks.
