Rust is another word for corrosion and aluminum absolutely corrodes.

not really an option I guess, but the back window that rolls all the way down rules, I cant understand why nobody else does that.

when I tested the ford I was shocked at how small that little portal was, especially after just getting out of my 16 crewmax.

but ya, ford has every option I can think of, not lacking there for sure. That said, its not like it was before when toyota had like nothing, lol, my 16 platinum didnt even have remote start, my 23 platinum has everything I can think of that I wanted, sans the built in generator

And then there's the 10speed that is matched so well to the turbo that makes it easy to drive. It doesn't even have the F150 BANG every third time when I put it in reverse.

Yeah the Tundra 10 speed is light years beyond Ford's clunky box. The Tundra isn't king of trucks but it sure does everything you need for a Truck well and while not exceptional in all categories it is better built and has better quality of materials in it than Ford or Chevy.

Ah yeah that's fair, that's the one edge I could see. It's a non-issue for me, I like having a window to open back there for how it makes the air circulate but I don't care what size it is. I can see how some would though.

Everyone talks about how bad the 10R80 is but mine has been perfect for 20k miles. Towing, hauling, riding around empty. I may not be as sensitive to it as some though.

I take issue with your second point though, I felt there was a lot of cheap plastic in the 3rd Gen and I have heard others echo that. Granted I'm comparing it against a loaded high trim F-150 but I definitely felt like the Tundy felt "cheaper" on the interior anyway.

Nope, but I've done a road trip in my '20 Tundra, and it's fine.

More importantly, it's paid off. Absolutely nothing against the '22+ Tundras. But when your truck is paid off and most driving is local, it's tough to consider ANY other vehicle. :)

How the F does Ford get away with not sorting out that clunk and just providing the "they all do that answer"?
I agree the Tundra isn't exceptional in all categories but I think it's better put together with better materials than the Gen 2 and the F150. The gen 2 has cheap hard plastic everywhere. The F150 ups the game but mine had been taken apart and put together so much that nothing fit.
Ford, being the fine company they are, wholesaled it after the buyback when they knew it had the electrical reliability of the a stripper with a meth habit.

Yeah mine's good too unless I go into sport mode in which case it does some weird stuff like clunking rather violently into gear when I come to a stop. I consider it a programming issue and assume it's because I rarely drive in that mode but who knows. Normal driving in normal mode the only way I know it's changing is to look at the gear indicator light.

There is nothing on a Ford you can tell me about I do not already know.

I have owned a Gen 1 2011 Ford Raptor, a Gen 2 2018 Ford Raptor, and a 2018 eco diesel 3 liter Ford F150. The transmission in all of them was less than ideal. Put 50-60-70k on them and see what you think. If you have a sunroof in your F 150 then be prepared to replace it some point in the future. Who puts plastic sunroof frames into 80k trucks? Ford that is who, and not to mention their crap blender doors and HVAC motors. It isn't what you see, it is what you don't see. Again, you can not tell me anything about Ford trucks I do not already know.

funny. so true. The '97 T100 here advertised Door Map Pockets as a feature back in the day. That and the one airbag, sold me. lol. Love that truck. The 3rd Gen SR5 here remarkably feature rich even at this level. Dig these trucks

Especially when you can drive it another 200,000 to 500,000 miles without issue with routine maintenance. Even with the low gas mileage, $30k to $40k difference in price will fill the tank for decades.

I thought that's what forums were for. :D

Seriously though...you asked me if I've done a road trip in one. You didn't ask me if I've driven/ridden in one, which I have My original post was addressing the 'tons of jumping around' point that was made. My post wasn't intended as a criticism of the 3rd gen; rather, in defense of the 2.5 gen, depending on one's use case.

3rd gen is indeed smoother than my truck; I have no problem admitting that. I'm simply saying that given the amount of driving I do, and the fact my truck is paid off, the difference isn't big enough to switch.

If I drove one hell of a lot more than I do, then yeah, I'd definitely be looking to upgrade.

with the rear window down implied. Yours is a DC
Question: I think I read that you drive the 401 in winter. If Tundra had a model with 4Auto would you have chosen it ?

    @eharri3 @mass-hole @Bannerman

Does your F150 go bing bang boing when you put it in reverse ? just asking.

Same, we live well but way below what we could. But we worked our butts off to be in this position, we had almost 200k in student loans plus cars that we worked through. Now we save up and pay cash for everything. Cars, boats, toys, if we don't have the cash we don't buy it.

I have a 2010 Tundra. 13 years 106K with one CV Boot repair which probably happened big game or upland game hunting. Otherwise, flawless. Drives exactly the same today as 2010. For being 13 years old the cabin is still SO quiet. I gave it to my son. I picked up a 2024 Tundra Limited.
But, to my eye, Tremor 150 with a leveling kit up front is eye candy. I just couldn't get past FORD. I have family members and some friends that have had very bad experiences. No truck is perfect but expect if something goes wrong for the dealer to diagnosis and correct. They did not have that type of experience. If I were a prophet and could look at a Tremor and know which one on the lot would be a 10 year reliable truck I would have grabbed it. I was that close but I had that gut feeling that held me back. I hope your truck, anyone's truck for that matter, is reliable and enjoyable. Regards

My cousin, who works for Ford, was in town Thanksgiving driving an Expedition. We got in to drive everyone to dinner and I was driving. Put it in a reverse and there was the clunk. He doesn't even notice it. I think I've maybe hit something. His GPS was jumping all over the place. They're not bugs, they're features...

You’d be surprised what a shift kit and tune would do to that 10R80. I did that to my Mustang, it’s a total beast. Paddle shifts occur instantly. Smooth as silk, drives like a manual when called upon.
