Saw an order thread here but don't know if anyone is seeing it anymore, so started a new one.

My 19 5.7 tundra makes a knocking noise at low idle, mostly when stopped in gear, under some kind of load.
Had it in several times to the dealer and all said they heard it but seemed normal. And to be honest that was 40K miles ago, but still makes a knocking sound at idle, more when the motor is stopped, in gear and more with a load like the AC on. You can turn the ac off and the noise gets much quieter. But don't hear it when first started. And much less in cold weather. Not rhythmic like a rod, skips a few beats ect.. More like a slap.

No noise at start and when warming up, but the warmer it gets and especially in hot weather the louder it is. Get it above 10 or 15mph and it's gone.

Shouldn't worry but it does drive ya crazy!!

Mine has done it for 200k miles. Sounds horrible when next to the block wall at any drive thru.

Wife has even comment a few times asking the truck is supposed to sound this bad.

    After warm, no sound.

Some claim it's timing chain tensioners, but I dunno? I would think it would be worse when warm. Regardless, I'm driving it and not worrying about it. It's given me 13 years of trouble free driving.

If it was actually knocking for a reason to be worried, you wouldn’t have made it 40k miles. Most likely it’s just normal tick.

Not to make this an oil thread, but maybe try some quality 5w30 on the next oil change and see if you notice a difference.

Well actually there is a new design out that tends to get dead silent around 45k miles.

See mine is just the opposite. Not a sound when cold or first started up. Once the engine is hot it starts. Less in cold weather days as well. Hot days it's loud.
