I honestly don't know where to begin... So, I'll just start w/a sincere... 'HOLY CRAP'!!!! :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance: followed by a couple of pictures:

    SS Delivered.jpg CloseUpMidleton.jpg

Apparently my Secret Santa has decided that there won't even be a 'Secret Santa of the Year' vote this year; he's just gonna walk away with it!!!

This is seriously incredible  and sorry for the following dissertation folks; but I really need to put this gift into perspective...

I think most whisky drinkers have a favorite; a favorite type (bourbon, scotch, rye, Irish, Japanese, Canadian, etc.); a favorite brand (Jameson, Bushmills, Buffalo Trace, Yamazaki, Fireball :)laugh:); a favorite line within the brand; and most certainly a favorite 'wish list' go to whiskey for those special occasions.... However, I think we all have that ONE whiskey (similar to that ONE meal); where if your time was up and you were given a choice to only have one more of... one more bottle, one more glass, one more drink... what would it be?

For me, Midleton Very Rare is the ONE. To me, it's perfect... and not just the perfect Irish Whiskey, it's the perfect Whiskey, PERIOD!!!

For anyone not familiar with Midleton, I'll offer a brief analogy to its prowess... Yes, I'm going to use bourbon here because that's what most folks are familiar with. So Buffalo Trace produces a lot of great products. They produce, Buffalo Trace, Weller, Sazerac Rye (yes this one honors New Orleans and the legacy of Thomas Handy, but it's made by BT), Eagle Rare, Blanton's and the infamous Pappys. Each of those product lines are generally produced/blended by different master distillers targeting and attempting to honor and carry on the tradition of that particular product line. The smaller the batch, the longer the aging, the more exclusive the blending or overwatch, the limitations on who actually does the blending/distilling or approving of the various product lines all plays a roll into how exclusive and rare a product is or will become.

Within the world of Irish whiskies, most folks are familiar with names like Jameson and Bushmills and apparently if you like one you can't like the other (at least in Ireland )... Jameson makes a number of products under their own name such as regular Jameson, Jameson Black, Jameson 12, Jameson 18, etc... Similar to Buffalo Trace, they also produce products under other brand names such as RedBreast, Spot and Powers; and similar to the distilleries with BT that produce their more rare products, Midleton is produced within its own distillery. Midleton also has a single Master Distiller that is responsible for creating that year's offerings from a hand picked selection of single pot stilled and still grain whiskies within the distillery that have been aged from 12 to 33 years!!!!

The trilogy of Master Distillers at the Midleton distillery, since its inception in 1984, has been Barry Crockett, Brian Nation and now Kevin O'Gorman. I've been fortunate enough to sample several of Barry Crockett and Brian Nation's creations over the years, but this will be my first time experiencing Midleton as created by Kevin O'Gorman.

If anyone wants to read or learn more about Midleton and its Master Distillers here is a link for you...

    https://www.midletonveryrare.com/en-us/the-influence-of-three-masters

The last thing I'll say here is that aside from the exclusiveness and quality of this whiskey being reason enough... out of every whiskey on the market today that you could've sent, how in the hell did you know this was the ONE??? Seriously!!! You either know someone outside of this forum, that knows me from 'back when', or at some point (in some random whiskey thread post I may have mentioned it); but either way, that would have taken some serious effort on your part...

Thank you! This is truly an amazing gift that has sincerely touched my heart!!!

Thank you Secret Santa. Sometimes it’s the worst job I’ve ever had, but most days it’s a lot of fun. Mr. Zip is my favorite, always keeping an eye out for anytime USPS release new items with him. He had a kids book, that I gifted to a little girl on my route, she loved it. I just try to find unique ways to return the favor when they tip or give Christmas cards to their mail carriers.

Best was when I got my route on a golf course. Well to do retired snow birds gave very nice x-mas gifts. I always gave a thank you card, and yes, I followed the rules and put a stamp on the card.

Just found these Christmas cards at TJ Maxx, almost perfect except the card is non-machinable.

Secret Santa….sincerest thank you! The animals will enjoy the treats and I’ll thoroughly enjoy rocking the SDHQ and Toyomafia swag. Can’t wait to try the bourbon…as soon as I’m over this cold it’s on the docket. Merry Christmas and thank you again!

Have you seen the "beer" @Azblue drinks? It's basically Bud Light. He can't be expected to understand bourbon.
