I like the card if you lose it simply have it shut down, if you lose cash kiss it goodbye in most circumstances. Also, last I checked you're not getting any perks using cash vs a card unless it's a lesser amount if paid in cash? Pay the balance off so no extra fees are included, I still carry about 100 cash at all times.

    Yes.

For snack purchases: McDonalds pitstop, Donuts, Hawkin's Cheezies, etc that I don't want my wife to see. ;)

Same here. I run everything through my credit card, including most of the utility bills, etc. I pay mine off weekly, quick transfer on the app, so I never pay interest, but I get the rewards. I also have a record of my expenses.
Every now and then I transfer the rewards over to savings, and by the end of the year it's like a nice little bonus sitting there.
I keep about $50 cash in my wallet for the odd place where I have to pay for parking or something, but almost never use it.

I always have cash, it's the only universal language.
Usually carry $500-800 at any given time just so I don't need to swipe any plastic for big brother's AI to track and solicit me.

I've also prepped envelopes for emergencies. I hide them in all my vehicles and a few places in the house as a last resort go to. Most have about $1000 with mainly smaller bills. Don't want to have to pay $100 for a loaf of bread when the power is out because I only had a Benny. Have the small bills for common things, big bills for influencing a negotiation. ( All my cash is Insured by Glock, S&W, DLD and Remington)

Always being prepared, means always having cash.

Coming from a place where I usually got my pockets checked while walking home, or getting robbed in broad day light. I still carry cash on me, may need a bathroom break to figure out how much I'll have or where it's coming from LOL...

I wonder if something like this would be worth a purchase in a state that technically doesn't produce/use any (e.g., Missouri, Virginia, etc.).

I pay cash when dining out. I’m just more comfortable having my credit card within my eye sight. However I use my credit card 95% of the time & I’m careful with it. For instance I always log out of my Amazon account when I’m done. I’m on a person budget & think about my purchases. I check my cc bill religiously. I only use my debt card to get cash at the bank’s ATM. I also subscribe yearly to 2 different credit monitoring services. When I was in college money was tight. I learned some valuable personal finance lessons & those lessons have stayed with me.
While I’m on my soapbox I’ll add I don’t think there’s anything wrong with kids earning their spending money. Our kids were not given an allowance but they knew that if they wanted gas money they had better help with chores.

I use my CC at gas stations, and I don't usually park on a pump with someone else just sitting on the opposite pump. Only did this 1 time since there were so many pumps that were closed and I needed fuel, but I pumped with a CC and I was super glad I did it. They cloned that card and tried to drain it for everything it had. Once that 1st charge of $2K went through I was sent a text and I called the company and was like fraudulent charges on my card, and I'm at work that's how I know. A lesson learned here is that a CC will restore and prosecute for their money almost instantly, any bank would care less about your money and will probably drag it out as long as they could.

I keep an "emergency" $100 in my wallet. I don't like having no cash at all, and I felt like a hundy was just enough to cover lots of contingencies.

Colorado does not have Goldbacks. Goldbacks are a common local currency. Each state that has Goldbacks accepts other states Goldbacks now. Each state has a list of merchants that accept Goldbacks. The main idea behind Goldbacks is to provide an easier means of paying for everyday items with gold besides silver after shit hits the fan, as when the dollar becomes worthless in a real recession. 1 Goldback today is $4.11. I bought most of mine when it was $3.65 per 1 Goldback. More states are coming online. Not a coincidence that these states are "tomato" in color.
    See: Goldback

$100 - $150 in small bills in my wallet and a $20 in my phone case, just in case plastic doesn't work. I primarily use my credit card though. I get 2.5% cash back on most things I buy, which adds up to a few hundred bucks a year in my pocket. We all pay inflated prices due to the CC processing fees. May as well get a little bit back.

There are authorized dealers that sell them. Some at a lower premium than others and they sell out fairly fast, especially the 25's and 50's. I have a supplier I buy from You can get a special wallet for them. They are extremely durable and pliable but highly recommend to not bend them. They are pretty kuul and you can use them now in several tomato states.

I carry cash these days because ALOT of places out here are charging ~3% extra for credit cards due to the fees. Food adds up when you’re constantly charged more at a restaurant because you don’t use cash.

Well, as of right meow it doesn't look like VA uses/accepts Goldbacks. With that said, I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to obtain a few hundred bucks worth of them.

Most rewards programs come at the cost of fees, higher interest rates, etc... (nothing is free) Credit card companies are in business to generate revenue not provide charity...

kinda like insurance companies are in business to make money and their 'discounts' really are BS as well... multiple policy, air bag discount, abs discount, drive w/your phone tracking your driving behavior discount, SRS discount, etc. etc.. etc... My last auto renewal showed a rate $1500ish w/over $800 in discounts :notsure:

...it's all hype to make you feel better about spending your $$ w/them

I see both sides. I pay my balance each month avoiding interest so the rewards aren’t costing me anything. When I purchased my last vehicle they let you put up to $5,000 down on a credit card - that’s $100 in my pocket for swiping the card (or tapping the phone as it’s come to be) rather than writing a check. The merchant eats the transaction fee…

I carry cash, but I mainly use my credit cards due to rewards and me actually coming out ahead of the annual fees. I travel a lot so it works for me.

Take an Amex Platinum for example:

    Annual Fee $695

$200 yearly uber credit: I use this for free monthly groceries

    $200 Airline Credit

    $200 Hotel Credit

$240 Streaming Credit: gives me free sirius xm and Disney + for my kids every year

$189 Clear Credit: Pair this with TSA precheck and you almost literally skip past security check in at airports.

$100 saks credit: I just save these for something nice by buying gift cards. Once I have enough, it'll be a great christmas present for someone.

Every 4 years you also get $100 to go towards tsa precheck or global entry.

There are plenty of zero fee credit cards that offer rewards. Every card in my wallet is that way.

Credit card companies largely make money from merchant fees and the interest paid by people who carry balances month over month.
