I just got over my addiction to chocolate, marshmallows and nuts.

What the hell happened over here? I could be wrong, but I blame the lack of hard alcohol, and all those little dainty raw fish dishes some here like to promote.

Don't eat a lot of fried foods for the obvious reasons, but had a craving for some fried chicken. I consider myself a pretty good cook, so I figured I'd give it a go. The result was visually horrifying, but pretty damn tasty. :anonymous:IMG_2373.jpg

So one of my close friends is having issues. Her husband, (a friend of mine, but we aren’t super close- I’ve known her for at least 10 years) told me he’s experiencing some of the same issues I was with alcohol. I’m hoping she shares my story with him, and asks me to reach out, or for him to reach out. He’s only going to stop if he wants to stop…and with his marriage on the line, I hope he does. Both of them have stressful jobs (LE and FF) so they don’t need to add to it.

That sucks. Sounds like alcohol for escapism, which is not uncommon in those careers. I hope they can figure it out. Especially if there are kids.

Did you sign up for the 2023 Tundras.com Secret Santa event???

PS>>> Same question I threw out at Azblue and same result; no need for you to respond as the question was rhetorical...

So, therefore, the answer to your question is quite simple.... No you can't have a Secret Santa :smash:

The 2023 Tundras.com Secret Santa event is much like ying and yang, pain and pleasure, hot and cold, darkness and light... it's impossible to experience and know the true joy of either end of the spectrum without having experienced both

    Yes, they do...

It's funny to me how I seem to understand and relate better to dogs than I do w/people

Speaking of dogs... my oldest had to have a minor procedure to remove a growth from the side of his face (started off as what looked like a cyst, but could never get it completely under control and just kinda kept growing and mushrooming out on him) :(. I feel like crap for him having to have surgery (he could care less), but I feel even worse for not having it removed sooner since the growth had been bothering him but post surgery he's not showing discomfort, irritation of even itching...

One of the reasons I let it go for a bit, is because he's getting close to the end... He's 13 now; which is fairly old for a mal (especially a working mal), but it's hard to watch him deteriorate. He's had some weird kind of autoimmune thing going on for the last couple of years, and the meds which help mitigate that are finally starting to catch up to him. The condition has caused him to progressively lose functionality of his rear legs (originally the vet thought it was going to attack the front limbs, throat (ability to swallow), face and neck; but for some reason it ended up shifting and going after his hind quarters...

Anyhow, prednisone has been the most successful therapy for keeping the condition at bay; but it's at a cost.... The prednisone causes atrophy of muscle tissue throughout his body, so over the last couple of years we've watched him diminish while trying to balance a decent quality of life with fighting this stupid autoimmune thing w/the drug. We've done a pretty decent job of keeping the dose low and varying the dosing periodically to mitigate the muscle loss, but everything is starting to come to head... He needs the higher dose to keep good functionality up, but it's eating away at muscle faster. :censored: I hate this; but there's nothing more I can do about this...

We thought he going to be gone a couple of years ago, but got shit under control and have maintained a good quality of life these last 2 years for him. He loves to play (really loves to bite still), loves to eat, sleeps peacefully, good bathroom breaks, and not experiencing any vomiting, diarrhea, etc.. that comes w/a lot of ailments and end of life situations :(

So, overall it could be much worse. I'm glad he's still happy, playful and wants all the stuff that's always made him happy; his body just isn't able to keep up w/his mind anymore.

Anyhow, where was I going w/this... oh yeah, the reason I was holding back on the surgery was because he's already struggling w/his everyday crap, so I was trying to avoid putting him through more shit if I didn't have to; plus it worries me putting him under while he's already sick... but he did great w/the whole thing and the wound is healing nicely

The vet said I could remove his sutures on the 12th at home, so at least we can just do that while we are here hanging out... Looks like he has 4 external sutures that will need to be pulled; he also had a few internal ones, but those will self-dissolve.

This was 2 days after the surgery....

    RudyNov30.jpg

    and this was yesterday...

    Rudy Dec 07th.jpg

He's getting some stubble back where they shaved him

Anyhow, the sutures look pretty good (sometimes vet sutures don't come out so clean)... but looks like the vet tied them off using an overhand knot followed by a figure 8; either way they'll be super easy for me to pull for him (plus he won't have to go back to the vet just for that)
