Bought my Tundra used with 23k miles on it couple weeks ago and still learning about all the options and features. I have this wire/plug coming out the rear bed corner. Is this OEM from the factory or did previous owner maybe have a camper or tonneau installed? I'm assuming this can be used for lighting, correct? LED?

Awesome! Thank you very much. This is very helpful. Looking at Leer's website and see all these caps have dome and 3rd brake lighting. So I would be able to use this plug to maybe install some bed lighting :bananadance:

You perhaps want my dome light battery mod, perhaps. I run a small battery to power the dome light when the truck is off.

The problem with how they wire that harness for the cap is the dome light is attached to the tail light so it only gets power if your tail lights are on. I find it rather useless because I'm not usually in the back of my truck with my tail lights on. I have been meaning to rewire it to the bed light switch

Thank you, I did read that. So wow that the truck has to be running for the light to work o_O

Technically it’s a molex connector which is what the TAG fuse box needs. Tag fuse box being what comes on Leer shells but it is possible to purchase independently and use in any topper. It’s not a waterproof connector and for that reason I don’t love it for situations where you might want the shell removed. I’ve settled on a Deutsch flange instead which allows a nice and clean feeder into the TAG and also can be plugged.

Definitely ideal to use the bed light circuit for dome light over parking lights.

I don’t have a 2.5 gen Tundra flavor of my kit but I probably could do one if I figure out the bed light connector (unless it’s the same as a Tacoma?

also a nice fuse box made by a TW guy might fit in the tundra taillight cavity.

If you had a plug and play cable for the dome power from the bed light switch I'd be interested

On the Tacoma the bed light connector is in the taillight cavity. I assume similar for Tundra. That’s where it’s easy to grab since so close.

No bed light connection in the taillight, it goes in the cab to the bed/third brake light. Guessing the Tacoma comes with actual bed lights? I was referring to the light that you can turn on within the third brake light.

That’s commonly referred to as the cargo light or CHMSL if referring to the assembly which is primarily a brake light.

I thought Tundras had bed lights too? Only 3.0 Gen? The wiring was standard on 2020+ Tacomas or at least the DC’s.

Nope no bed lights on 2.5 gen. It was a factory add on but the wiring ran from inside the cab through the passenger side grommet under the passenger carpet. Same grommet the remote tailgate kit utilized so sometimes would conflict if you wanted both.
