Little known facts about Pearl Harbor:
    • America fired the first shot before the attack on Pearl Harbor

    • Of the 2,026 American sailors and marines killed in the attack, 1,606 had been aboard 2 ships (USS Arizona & Oklahoma)

    • Crew members who served on board the USS Arizona during the attack may choose to have their ashes deposited by divers beneath one of sunken Arizona’s gun turrets.
    More facts here.

Standing at the memorial is a very humbling experience. Highly recommend making the trip. I've been there eight times over the years and brought my family for one of them.

Yes, I agree. We visited in July of 2017 and I watched oil rise to the surface as we visited the memorial.

Our first attempt to visit Pearl Harbor was in August of 1958 when we were on our way to moving to Japan. It was closed for some sort of restoration so we were not capable of visiting then. It took me until 2017 to make the return trip.

    I will never forget it.

Interesting coincidence! We were on our way back from our 10 day vacation in Japan (first time with any length of stay since living there from 1958-1962).

My grandfather was an army ww2 vet and he hated the japs. Nobody was allowed to park a Japanese vehicle in his driveway. He was awesome, taught me a lot about history.

It's an amazing memorial, we were just there a couple weeks ago actually. My second time there but I really took it all in this time around.

My grandpa was there. His ship was sunk thank goodness he was ashore, or I may not be making this post. Amazing man who shaped my life
