what MagnaFlow muffler for a stock exhaust system?

Update to my exhaust comparison of a magnaflow muffler vs stock.

took a road trip this weekend to the AZ mountains and back.

Mpg and power on highway is DOWN with stock muffler vs my magnaflow.

the OE muffler is best when cruising around 1200rpm in the city. Oe is almost 1mpg better in city driving vs magnaflow. However at 2k rpm the magnaflow is the winner in mpg. Ive made this trip with magnaflow and gotten 1mpg average better while driving faster with more weight in the bed

 

I just ordered the same one. After listening to 100 different sound clips this one sounded the best IMO. Will have to see how the drone is?

 

I got some drone in the usual 1400-1700ish RPM range. It wasn't terrible, definitely have had and heard much worse.

Eventually ended up making my own resonator that got rid of the mild drone.

 

Out of curiosity, what was the total length of your resonator, including the bend? I’m planning on a ~30” pipe for my truck.

 

My setup x pipe into dual magnaflows and dumped before cab. Startup very rarely would set off a car alarm 1 out of 100 idle is quite and sounds really good throughout rpm range. Power feels good in that 2500 and up range but I do get a decent amount of drone. Can’t tell if it’s the reverberation of the exhaust off the asphalt back into cab. Personally love the magnaflows doesnt give that flappy raspy sound. Sounds more like a nascar engine

 

I got the same 14' Magnaflow (12198) installed and I'm having the drone issues as u did, I'm thinking about copying your design, what the length of that resonator? Does it need to be that long??.. I'm assuming 2.5 in pipe, thinking I would use a hanger for it also, any insight would be much appreciated!

 

A smooth transition Y pipe, a flow thru muffler. And stock tailpipe will drone the least right out of the box. Then run a resonator to clean up the little drone that there is.

 

I had a Magnaflow with the drone from hell.
I then found Keith @dirtydeeds and he suggested trying one of his resonators.



It killed the drone, although it knocked the sound back close to stock.
I ended up ditching the Magnaflow, ordering a BAM system from him, and I've been happy since.
