    Hello,

Looking for recommendations on quality tranny fluids & coolant for a flush on both. Pushing 220k & have just done reg oil changes, besides getting a new set of tires due to blowout (dry rot). Would like to see about getting a chip for better fuel economy. Mostly hwy driving but have dropped to less than 13mpg. Thanks for all your help!

If at 220k you haven't done a trans flush then the consensus is, let it be. If you have done it before, I would go OEM fluid or Valvoline. Coolant is also specific to the engine material so OEM or something that is made the same as OEM. Brand doesn't matter but it has to be the same type. Chip will not gain you any noticeable gains in MPG, it a 6000lb brick. Have you done the air filter, spark plugs, etc?

You appear to have a level and bigger tires. Both of those will rob you of MPG. Fresh oil, air filter and plugs will help. Also clean the MAF and throttle body. O2 sensors can slowly fade and cause poor mpg as well. So maybe refresh the 4 sensors there. Drain and fill the trans is safe and puts fresh fluid with fresh detergent and friction modifiers. Coolant should be changed every 100k miles or so. The pink stuff. No chip will help with MPG. Also driving 65mph or less will net big MPG gains.

If it were me, I'd just do a series of 2 or 3 drain and fills (not flush) the transmission using only Toyota ATF WS.

For the coolant, I'd use OE Pink 50/50 Long Life

Unless the trans pan has been down before your going to have a bad day. The bolts sieze because of dissimilar metals and will break off.

Love their motor oils, but have no experience with their ATF. I am considering using their product for my next drain and fill. As others have said, you may want to reconsider a drain and fill or a flush if that AT has over 200,000 miles on it with original fluid.
