Someone with a Scangauge2 and a 4 speed auto (A340) try this xgauge for me. My 03 is still at the shop.

The Scangauge people emailed me this xgauge for ATF temp and asked me to try it and get back to them.

To put it into perspective, and show just how much the glaciers are melting back...

Southernmost Tip of Chile is basically where we were during this leg of the trip, in Torres del Paine. The right-hand pin shows the zoom-out of it.

We had to wake up at like 3:30am, to go to a hotel on Grey Lake (Hotel Lago Grey) and buy some ferry tickets. We took a ferry out into the middle of the lake, and hopped onto a skif which took us to the pink dot, which was essentially a tiny campsite with a bunch of dudes on it. They threw us in an even smaller boat, where we followed the yellow line in the left-hand zoom box, and jumped onto a rock at the pink dot. We had to hike a couple of miles up over that rock formation, mountain, whatever you want to call it, along the orange line. Then put on crampons to hike the huge section of glacier that, as of now, no longer exists. It looks like it's receded about 2-3 miles since we were there in 2015, and it had to be at least 1/2 mile thick at the end of that orange line. EDIT: Then we had to haul ass back, literally running over the mountain, because the guide let us hang out too long and we were gonna miss the ferry pickup, then get stuck at that little camp overnight.

Here's what the hike up from the pink dot looked like, about halfway up the face:

And here's what that last little tail end of yellow looked like up to the pink dot, you see the vertical cliff face toward the last couple seconds.

And so you can see how rapidly the glaciers are melting due to warming at out poles, the photo below is basically taken from the red X, pointing in the direction of the arrow. You can see on satellite view, it's muddy water, slurry, basically no ice anymore, 8yrs later. Glad we were able to do it when we did, because I don't expect any of this to be here in 20 years. Pretty messed up...

And sorry for flexing so much on this shit y'all, it was just super memorable. I never got to do anything like this at any point in my earlier life, never had the disposable scrilla to make it happen which made saving up in my older age to do it, with a couple of our closest friends, really f'n incredible. This is not remotely "normal" type of thing for me, I really wish I could be doing stuff like this a couple of times a year. I hope with retirement looming, I still have the mobility to cash in. If not, I'll feel like I got swindled pretty hard by the system.

Wow. 17 years of dryer use has literally burned the slick enamel paint off my drum. Now it feels like 80 grit sandpaper even though it’s still white.

Stainless steel only replacements for washer and dryer drums in the foreseeable future.

They have an auxiliary wheel with no tire that bolts onto your wheel and acts as a winch spool as you try to drive forward. Saw a video with that and a deadman’s anchor setup to get a vehicle unstuck with no trees around. Believe it was some of those crazy Aussies

I think travel of any kind is important for everyone. It really helps us get out of the tunnel vision mindset and changes our perspectives of the world. At least it has for me in the places that I have been in the US so far.

I haven't been out of the country (other than the Bahamas) but I plan on going to see Pompeii in Italy within the next few years. It is my dream to stand in those ancient streets.

Well said. We've noticed a lot on this trip. Fins are extremely clean and courteous. We're in a huge city and noticed they never use their car horns. They let pedestrians cross and everyone drives with care.

One night the only thing open at midnight was Burger King and not only was the food better than BK's in the US, the kitchen area was spotless. Not a disgusting greasy mess like back home.

I also like how they don't use salt on the roads. I haven't seen a single car with rust. Snow tires are mandatory and they put down crushed gravel. The roads are covered in snow but no one is crashing into each other. Even the buses have no issue getting up the hills.

The cold is too much for me though. It was -20F when we did the northern lights tour. I thought I was gonna lose a few toes. Looking forward to being back in mild temperatures.

Layers for sure. I have some underarmour cold gear that I wear under my clothes when it’s super cold out. It’s not warm, but it keep the wind off of you. Amazing how much warmer you feel.

:gossip: It’s called thermal underwear. Not that expensive and it does the job. May shrink in the wash a bit due to being all cotton so buy the appropriate size.

I just didn't agree with the way they dumped one of their sponsored hunters over a small group complaining about animal cruelty because they did a spear hunt. They promote themselves as supporters of hunting/outdoors, but seem like a fair weather supporter if all it takes is some pink haired whiner to get a couple of sponsorships cancelled.

I could care less about all that if it’s what I need to keep warm. And thermal undies are not equivalent to the cold gear. They are not doing the same thing.

They’re not wicking the sweat away and allowing it to evaporate but it all comes down to what you’re doing outside. If it’s something you work up a sweat over then swimming in your own sweat via thermal undies is not the best choice.

And I don't disagree with your position. It's a personal choice. Same thing for Dick's Sporting Goods. They took a stance on an issue, and so I buy elsewhere. Lots of people do it, even more people don't care as long as the company provides what they wish to purchase. Just the way the world goes round.

The problem is, when you really dig into it, there are very few companies doing it all above board and to my liking. I would end up punishing myself and not them. But Aaron Tippin had a point.
