Bought this used tenere recently, had sticky clutch plates so a buddy suggested i lay the pony down on some hay to soak the plates.
Think i kind of soaked my charcoal canister in the process as it had a hard start but eventually went. Plates feel slightly better.
My first real motorcycle and I dig it. People say they are slow but its just fine by me.

Have ride buddy who rocks a T7 with custom suspension work and he rips on that thing. Don't need 100+ hp to have fun in the dirt and the T7 does it well

They’re only slow if you ride them slow. The T7 is a great bike. Camel-adv.com sells some great aftermarket parts for those bikes. And if you ever decide to upgrade the boingers, Suspension 101 (Alpine, Ca) uses his special secret sauce to get those bikes to handle verrrry nice.

I love my Tenere and it's basically a Camel ADV "factory" bike. :D I have almost all their parts on it. Great parts and great customer service.

Cory (camel adv) is a buddy of mine. Even though he lives up in Canada land, we somehow end up riding or racing together once a year on big twin cylinder adv bikes. I’ve owned 5 different KTM 950/990 adventure bikes. My current 990R project is pretty much complete. I bought this bike about a 1.5 years ago and have yet to even test ride it. As soon as i drug it home i immediately pressure washed it, then stripped it down to the frame. I removed handfuls of wires from the main harness as well as from other areas. After removing something like 10~12 wires from the ECU, i downloaded a different mapping so that it would actually run. I had delivered my suspension to S101 (even though his shop is 1000 miles away from me) since i was literally driving right through his area.

My bike is MUCH lighter right now. I’ll have to get it in the scale to see how svelte it is. I’ll have to post up a pic of the bike at some point...

My 990 is one of the best bikes I've ever owned. Most of my friends have moved on to 790/890s but I just can't

    I just bought this dinosaur.

I’ve been looking for a trail-and-track bike. So stoked to have found this.

Not quite the dirtbike yet but I’ll get a set of 21-18 wheels at some point.

As much as i like (love?) the blue SM rims on the Dr., those smaller wide diameter rims suck offroad. The 21-18 is where it's at for trail riding!

I never imagined myself having fun on a slow bike, but I am.

I’ve invested so much on this thing in just a few weeks to get it ready for adventure/trail riding, plus the gear/armor that I've been buying to save me from (when) I crash.

I’ve added the following so far:
    Madstad windshield
    Handguards
    Acerbis gas tank
    Shorty levers
    Larger mirrors

    To be installed
    21 - 18 wheel set
    tusk dsport tires,
    Innertube and rim tape

I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the carb has an aftermarket fuel mixture and float
screws. This likely means it’s been re-jettes. It also has a K&N filter already. I just had to do the airbox 3x3 mod.

Maybe I’ll block off the pair valve as well to get rid of the popping, but I still have to do my research.

It’s looking good. My good friend had a DRZ with a MRD slip on muffler. It was so loud that we always made him ride at the back of the group, and it still sounded like the a low flying Piper Cub was chasing up down. He more or less got the ultimatum to get a different exhaust or else. He traded it directly across for someone who was getting rid of his almost new exhaust. The power level felt the same and his bike wasn’t obnoxiously stupid loud anymore.

Thx! That’s funny. I heard the MRD exhaust adds the most noticeable power for the drz. But I’m happy the previous owner chose the yosh ‘cause it’s so quiet. I’m surprise by this ‘cause the yosh I had on my Triumph 765R was loud.

i love the wider tank. Easier to grip while standing up or when leaned over for a corner.

About loud exhausts...most men won’t ever admit that after they spend good money on a loud muffler that they didn’t get some sort of power increase! It’s called pride, and it comes before the fall. I wouldn’t be surprised if 99% of the 4 stroke vehicles out there (car, truck, motorcycle, quad, sxs), don’t receive any noticeable power increase. People keep buying loud exhausts though. There always seems to be a discrepancy with the ol’ butt dynojet.

Here are a couple pics of my latest KTM 990 build. Quite a few different KTM bike made their donations to make it happen. The base bike is a 2011 KTM 990R. It has. 2008 990S plastics, 2013 forks (with 265mm travel), 2006 950S shock (265mm travel), 640 SM blue front fender, 2004 950S rear fender, 2006 950 swingarm modified to Super Enduro specs. Lots of work has gone into making the bike lighter weight, and a ton of work has been done to remove as many wires from the main harness and to the ECU as possible.

Of course the blue is too pretty to get rambunctious on, so i have spare plastics that i install for when i want to get rowdy.

Awesome bike! Looks like you did the single disc conversion on the front. Did you by chance relocate the battery? What lights are those above the front turn signals? I did a fair amount of wiring and unnecessary crap removal on mine. The biggest weight savings on mine was removing the ABS system and all it's hoses.

The MRD does add power, with a full system and proper jetting. The OP said the MRD was a slip-on, which equals more noise only (unless the quite insert in installed). As for the Yosh, been there. It too has a quiet insert to tame down the noise, but can be run wide open in race mode and is very loud. It is all about how it is set-up.

Thank you, i love the color. It took me about 3-4 years to track down the blue Bedouin bodywork.

Yes, i did the single brake conversion. Then swapped on a 950 SE/690 Enduro front brake master cylinder. As cool as the double discs looks, i would prefer to have less unsprung weight.

I did not relocate the battery. I know a few guys are proponents of doing that, but i see zero benefit in doing that unless your racing. And if you’re racing, then no doubt you’ll have a lightweight Li battery installed. And since that’s the case, then there really isn’t a need to relocate the battery. Plus you loose any sort of precious storage space for tools and spares!

The yellow (amber) lights are Baja Designs S1. Interesting backstory...years ago after BD release their S2 lights, i contacted them and asked how long until they come out with a single LED light. They were like, “huh?” Well i would check back with them about every 6 months about it. I must have planted a seed or something, because about 4 years later they finally released their S1 leds. No, i didn’t see a dime from their product research team.

Yes, you can loose LOTS of weight by removing the ABS from the 990! Plus you gain lots more room for storage under the seat. I also had a 2008 990. It’s especially easy on the 2007-08 bikes. All it requires is replacing all the crazy ABS lines with non-Abs lines. Then you can also remove the whole dang ABS sub-harness from the bike. And if you want to go another step, you can cut off all the ABS mounting tabs that are welded onto the frame. The 09-13 990ABS bikes are much more complicated to remove the ABS, so i purposely searched out either a 990R or 990 Baja. I happened to find a 990R first, so that’s what i bought. Before i even gave it a single test ride (my foot was broken at the time), i had the bike completely stripped down so that only the engine was left in the frame. I have a fairly long and detailed thread on the two bikes over on advrider. It’s HIGHLY informative. Wire diagrams, weight loss diet, ect..
