I just dug back in my memory.... It's been over 15 years since I've had ANY type of cable TV. :D:rofl:

Was that back when it was all analog and you could just bypass the cable box and plug it into your tv to get all the channels?

I don’t even recall that show. Must’ve followed Night Rider since that was the show that queued me to turn off the TV and goto bed.

Yep, into the double digits for me! Didn’t hurt that I got to hang out on base a lot as a kid, around other fun aircraft.

Rewatching that intro shiz tho, I’m pretty sure half the intro was just a cheezy helo model on a tether in front of a camera zipping around miniature canyon models.

We've been tearing it up in the Yaris hybrid. This thing has the trunk space of a Miata. Studded snow tires are nice. We haven't seen the northern lights yet but we're going on a guided tour tonight.

One weird thing is that Fins keep their indoor space roasting. I mean unbelievably hot. We keep having to open windows.

@shifty` I decided to weigh in on your kids asking what to gift you. This isn't about you; it's yet another thing you need to do right or they'll not be thoughtful generous gift givers in future. I suggest you get with your wife, figure out a few things you could possess (that between the 2 of you, will get used... because the kids need to see that you value the gifts), then decide which will be her requests, which will be yours. She should mentor (out in the world shopping is probably better for instilling lessons about choice, and value... plus they may notice a "better" gift that really is better, and that would be stellar) them in choosing gifts for you; you should mentor them in choosing gifts for her.

Once again, the times I offer advice on here are typically times I wasn't asked. ;)

People don't magically learn to notice or anticipate what other(s) value. Or how to be thoughtful or generous gift-givers; it's modeled behaviour. It's true, most of us on here aren't cash-poor and seldom go long without something we need or want. But if you skip these lessons, those kids won't have any idea about how to handle this in future.

Totally agree and value the input. In previous years, we've followed most of that but you added a couple of things in I think we probably need to roll-in this year. Thanks for that.

I missed out on a lot given my early life situation so I'm a semi-stupid on cards and gifts. Fortunately I married someone that's brimful in that department, but that doesn't help when you're just a traditionally hard-to-shop-for dude, and folks are forced to shop for something you like vs. something you want, I think? I dunno.

PS - thought about you earlier when I saw this, based on prior conversations : https://www.reddit.com/r/sandiego/comments/183uaq0/average_rancho_bernardo_experience/

(I think that's from the northbound off-ramp onto Bernardo Ctr, short jaunt from one of our old skate spots, which is looooong f'n gone!)

Is that a yurt, a cabin, or ?? Hard to tell. When we stayed in Patagonia, we glamped in yurts. It was f'n nuts. It sounded like cyclones on the yurt walls all night long. I strangely really enjoyed it.

It's a glass "kota" hut according to them. The ceiling is mostly glass and you can turn on heaters in the glass to melt the snow. It's easily the nicest place we've ever stayed and we could only afford 1 night. Already moved on to a more reasonable hotel.

Ah, wood walls. Can't tell with all the snow. I thought it was a yurt, like what we splurged on while in Patagonia for a couple of days (not my pics) with a couple dear friends of ours: https://patagoniacamp.com/en/

But the side windows on the kota were throwing me off. The yurts were central/easier for a lot of day trips to stuff we wanted to do in/around Torres del Paine and a little further south.

    Some perspective on that ^^

I'm shocked the guide let me break off from the group and shoot all these pics, he had everyone else tethered. One of the coolest f'n things I've ever done before.

Best gift to shifty might be doing a truck mod clean as a surprise? I woulda been all over that as a kid. Doubt many of our spawn would like it. Temp Gentex harness or something. Sound deadening.

    @Sunnier <3

My parents & grandparents know they get socks & underwear unless they show me something worthy. Like i wouldnt buy mom those bracelet doodads, and i wont buy dad beer. They have to show me something worthy & sometimes they offer to pay half, and sometimes i pawn half onto my brother.

Unless shown otherwise, mom & the granma's are getting non-croc house shoes & maybe a light robe & dad & grandpa are getting fancy undies & superhero socks.

The place I mentioned with the glass ceiling came with our own sauna and hot tub. It was great. We're going to one in Helsinki too.
