Long Tube Headers for 4.7 Tundra V8

I know that sometimes $500 can be a lot of money, but for stepping up to stainless for any exhaust seems like a no brainer to me from an investment standpoint...even in a region that doesn't salt their roads. Ok, maybe SoCal residents won't need need stainless, but everywhere else it would sure save you $$$$ in the long term.

What gains can you reasonably expect on a stock vvti ecu?

 

With dual 2.5 exhaust 40hp and 50tq to the rear wheels over stock.

 

Thank you for this post Keith. There has been speculation for months long tubes were NLA. And tri-Ys have been NLA from Stan's since he retired 2 years ago. We were afraid JBA shorties were our only option.

 

Was there ever any outcome to whether or not Stan was selling the jigs he was using to make the tri-Ys? I feel like there some discussion on the topic and it fizzled out. There's bound to be a market enough to not re-invent the wheel, just re-use what someone else already found worked.

 

It came up in another thread. There were attempts at buying the jigs but in the end they went with the rest of the business to the new owners. Nothing further came of it.

The business is now a self-service garage where you rent a bay with a lift and tools. Kind of like the hobby shops they have on military posts. So, guessing the jigs are either in someone's personal garage or scrapped.

The latter part is I guess what's disappointing to me. They probably inherited all of it after buying and didn't know what 25% of it was.

I know the auto hobby ('auto skill centers' now) you mention on-base, and I'm trying to fathom how someone saw what he was doing and thought that would be what you'd do with that business?

 

It's about dollars with a lot of businesses now. Selling a few dozen headers a month with daily exhaust work sounds expensive compared to pay 1 kid to sit at the cash register all day to rent bays and tools.

 

There was actually an auction site that sold off everything, I think. 4 or 5 of the listings are specifically for a pile of header jigs, and my guess is that they are somewhere in those piles. Pics aren't high resolution enough to make out anything in particular.

I found on an IH Scout forum site (https://www.binderplanet.com/forums/index.php?threads/apparently-stans-headers-is-done.148863/) that someone from Texas bought at least some of the jigs, I'm unsure if they're for Scouts or if he bought all of them. I sent them an email inquiring but heard nothing back. Maybe I'll call at some point. This is as far as I got. If someone else wanted to pick up the digging maybe they'll have better luck.

 

Seems like a lot of effort to recreate something I already have. Once you get the fixtures you’ll still have to cut flanges. V bands. Collectors. Bend the tubes. Weld it all together. Try to do that in 304 stainless steel and see how it makes more sense to just buy my headers

 

Yeah there's way in hell I would have the skills or tools to do that, nor am I insinuating I somehow know better than the 2uz exhaust master. I'm just more curious in chasing down where they went for history, I guess. Stan has built some good headers. It'd be a shame if a genuinely useful jig just got tossed or ended up with someone who didn't know what they had.

 

I guess i’m lucky that i had the opportunity to buy Stan’s headers when i did. The stock manifolds were cracked on my old 1977 F250 “lowboy” 4x4 so i needed something. My friend owns an exhaust shop, and he wouldn’t let me buy anything but a Stan’s header. I didn’t notice any sort of power gains once installed on the 460, but at least the headers look really nice!

 

I think i'd like a 4 piece 180* header. My truck as is wont sound better than a high compression 2v engine. But i'd bet i'd burn more gas singing a flatplane song.
