Lol they definitely need a lot of help. My wife's 2020 is a pig without any tuning.

Her 2008 with the 4.7L absolutely rips.

Only? You can throw on a complete ARH exhaust system, AFE element, tune, and still only get +20ish HP. Cost: $4-5k

Do they all have a sensor to detect what octane? or is this only flex trucks?

I'm currently tuned with VFTuner and his tune pack with EROM on it.

 

Octane Learning in this sense is referring primarily to pump gas, but if you were to run an ethanol mix (not full e85 on a non FFV truck), it would respond accordingly because the ECU logic advances ignition on its own in response to knock feedback, or lack thereof. This is the beginning for the basis of how Octane Learning functions.

 

Just curious... is there some reason why you'd expect an engine tune to effect that? Why wouldn't the transmission be locked in 3rd anyway? Do you use S mode?

Any summary of do you add anything over VFs tune packs for the tundra? I have a 2021 and I don't believe his does octane learning as the tune pack includes files for each octane type, but do you add anything else?

 

The VFTuner tune packs for most of the vehicles that they build them for are pretty basic. We do a much deeper dive into just about everything, particularly where ignition and VVT adjustment and transmission control are concerned.

The VF premium fuel calibrations are intended specifically for premium fuel. The way the ignition works, it'll retard timing if lower octane is detected via the presence of knock, but it'll only be so successful on files that are deliberately set up for premium fuel. The opposite is true too. A regular octane calibration is technically capable of octane learning because if no knock is detected, it will advance some and then back off when knock is sensed.

All that said, our OL tunes are designed to adjust properly for both regular and premium fuel, and are tested to be safe and reliable when doing so.

Any numbers VF Tune Pack vs Something you've done? I doubt you are able to make more resolution on the table so do you just play it closer to knock values, not really catching on here sorry.

 

We haven't done a dyno comparison of VF vs YW, and I don't anticipate this happening either.

What you are describing is more similar to an approach of just taking a VF tune pack and refining it, or cleaning it up, which is not what we do.

 

Wanted to leave a review after driving on Yotawerxs latest tundra tune for awhile.

The tune drives really good in short.

More in depth:

The shifting is way improved. There is no rev hang, which was my biggest annoyance with the competitors tune. Shift points actually make sense now, the competitors tune would rev to 2800 rpms damn near no matter what throttle position you were at as it shifted through 1-3rd. This was super annoying as there is no need for this thing to rev like a third gen tacoma. Yotawerxs shifts like it should, well before 2800rpms if you're just cruising around town.

Power wise it's great. The throttle curve makes sense there is no jerkynese at all. The biggest surprise power wise with this tune is how as you dig into the throttle there is more and more power to be had. I was so used to all the power being tapped by half throttle and the rest of the pedal was just downshifts. Now it actually has more power to give throughout the entire pedal travel with yotawerxs. I really enjoy that.

Towing is great, I towed 9,000 pounds through the mountains of Colorado and it didn't break a sweat. Tow haul mode works great downshifts are timely as are upshifts.

Overall this tune improves day to day drivability, making it drive so nice, smooth, and predictable.

If you're going to spend your money on a tune I would highly recommend going with yotawerxs over the other guys as I have had both!

You gonna pass emissions with the CVN requirement or have to flash back to stock ? Or try the roadside stations and hope for favorable results?

 

I passed it this year back in May with the tune. I'd guess that I got lucky. In the future I'll flash back to stock if I don't make it pass a roadside.
