Sound Skins sound deadening kit

Hi All,

I've come across this YouTube video for our tundras.

Anyone have experience with these sound deadening kits? Any thoughts about this particular kit and installation?

My Tundra has a bit more outside noise when driving on highway, and if the music at low volume, I can't hear any words... Would something like this kit help?

 

I heard that most of the products have a foul odor, I have been in one vehicle and I could smell it. Just an FYI on what you could be buying, the gift that keeps giving

 

I used a similar product. Did the front doors and rear area. Doors are super heavy. I get less rattling but it’s kind of a time consuming install, having to press down every bit and the material is sharp when you cut it. Cuts through plastic gloves.

 

Wheel well deadening would help too. But in reality you could use a number of different products and get the same results.

 

Lots of posts about this all over the place. The search bar is a great thing to use and find posts about this. Many have done this one way or the other while upgrading the crappy stereo that Toyota gives us.

 

Soundskins is just a layered foam and butyl base material meant for sound insulation (foam) and deadening (butyl base). It will definitely work to make the truck quieter and the sound system will sound better, you'll notice a reduction in road noise that should make it easier to hear your music at lower volumes.

I sound deadened and insulated both the inner and outer door panels as well as the back wall and floor under the rear seats with the cheap Siless brand material on Amazon. Combined with highway tires and an exhaust resonator the truck is as quiet as a Lexus RC300 that I've driven a few times. It's great for reducing fatigue on long drives, listening to music, and having phone calls or conversations with people in the cab.

 

I don't recall seeing posts about this on a 3rd gen forum.

 

Those are cheap asphalt based products, they do smell when it gets warm. Second Skin and others are Butyl based and have almost no odor (or none I can smell) I've done my 2nd Gen and previous work truck and they definitely help with road noise.

 

That's interesting, I feel like my Platinum is insanely quiet at all speeds (even with larger, more aggressive all terrain tires) and figure the 1794 and Platinum have the same sound deadening implementation.

 

Ha, can't imagine the roads in Seattle are much better. I also turned off the ESE in techstream shortly after getting the truck.

 

I have used the search bar on this sight several times and it never gives me what I'm looking for.

 

I hear you, it would be great if tips where on the search page. For instance using quotes for exact wording, etc. If you are new to a forum all of that takes a while to get used to

 

not a bad price for pre cut... if i keep this truck long term I may get them to quiet it down and tame some rattles. Been eyeing older used seqouia's again, but damn are they still expensive!

 

Precut... not so much, there was a lot of cutting. Admittedly that was not a bad price
