I was looking for the most ridiculous example I could find. There are actually several that are still stock, and they are relatively reliable so long as basic maintenance is kept up.

They did. It's known as the first gen Tundra and it is excellent.

But they're old and rotten now! (Near me any way, and if it's not rotten the price is astronomical) Plus I need that radar cruise

So travel to Arizona or something to buy one. Radar cruise is nice, but a V8 Taco is better.

I think a big engine in a small truck makes way more sense than a small engine in a big truck.

Not a chance. For how much a supercharger costs the increase in power is not nearly enough. If you really want more power out of a third gen a custom dyno tuned turbo setup would be the only way to go. But I don't have money for any of that shit plus that would make my Toyota less reliable which ruins point of owning a Toyota lol. If I had lots of money though a full-on street legal race truck Tacoma with an LS swap that maintains four-wheel drive would be the Bee's sneeze

As long as the big engine makes lots of ponies. I once bought a 79 Ford 250 with a Big ass 400 C.I. power plant, something never felt right about it till I discovered it came from the factory with only 159 HP. :anonymous:

    It's not a lot different/better than the 3rd gen V6. A double cab 2006 weighs just under 5000 lbs.

    upload_2023-11-19_19-34-54.png

The current Tacoma double cab has 278 HP and 265 lb-ft of torque, but it's lighter. Basically it's trading a bit of payload and towing for better MPGs with similar power.

A Magnusson SC doesn't threaten the reliability the same way a high spun performance build does. True, it won't make it a race truck, but you'd get into trouble with that anyway. You would, however, feel the difference. Especially if you re-geared with it.

I am with you that it's not worth the added cost and maintenance to tinker, though. Maybe I'll get a tune on the stock engine someday, but even that I may not bother with. I love the Taco as it is, so I'm not sure I want to fiddle with it.

If you do get a tune I would go with the one that you originally linked me. I'm not very happy with the KD Max. It's not horrible but it's definitely not worth what I paid

It is jerky as hell when trying to drive at reasonable parking lot speeds. Like when you want to go just faster than idle but only just, it lurches like someone driving a manual who doesn't know what they're doing. Part of that is my choice to go for the sport throttle but they should have noticed that during testing of the tune and had the sport throttle dialed back when the accelerator is just barely depressed and then activate the sport part of the sport throttle once more than like 5% or 10% throttle is given. It literally bucks in the parking lot when I'm leaving work or at the store. Also conversely, sometimes the sport part of the sport throttle is lacking. Just today I was in a turn lane to go to Walmart, and I saw my gap, gave it gas and it was a tortoise trying to jump into the Walmart parking lot. There are specific instances where it is improved but overall as a tune it's pretty lackluster. Also, kind of funny in a bad way, the guy who did my tune texted me and asked me how everything was going. I told him about how it was kind of a lackluster tune and there were areas I was disappointed in. He just ghosted me

That's a crappy deal man. Sucks that the tuner bailed as well. They should be on it about wanting to rework it a little. That's the only thing that keeps a tuner in business. Maybe reach out to the actual folks that developed the tune and see if they can assist. Him going ghost is pretty shitty.

If it would physically fit, I would love to see it. Pretty sure that is going to be a full front end redesign to cram in there, though.

I thought about it but that KD Max thread on Tacoma world is a straight Kool-Aid fest. I wouldn't be surprised if I got reported for saying something negative lol. Plus I'm not certain where the nearest tuner would be that deals with them seeing as the guy who did my tune was visiting from Colorado. I think I just might do some research and see where the nearest OTT guy is and ask if they give a discount if you're switching from a competitor's tune

We, from a staff stand point, hate tuners. The amount of reports we would get were insane. We called it done with them. All they did was whine and bitch

No worries, I laughed too. He checked up on me on Tacoma world and via text initially after the tune happened but as soon as I said something negative after the next (last) checkup he just straight up disappeared. Reminded me of my bosses at work. They come by my machine and if my answer to how's it going is anything but good they just sprint away or alternately once in a while they say they will get to the bottom of the issue and then never do anything
