That feels like a “not going home pic”. You started looking at schools for the girls and what it would cost to ship your cars to HI?

Switched over to a new oil that I'll be running from now on. Decent price plus super convenient.

Bro I fucking wish!!!! I am sticking true to my word and holding on to a vehicle for a while for once, but if the next gen Tacoma had the option of a V8 I would be powerless to resist. A midsize truck with a V8 has always been my dream.

I never understood why they never offered the taco with one of the smaller V8s.
    They never even tried.
There's no way in this reality that they wouldn't have sold a billion of them.

Couldn't agree more, especially considering the fact that first gen tundras were so close in dimensions to a second and third gen Tacoma.

    Three reasons.

    1. The Tacoma doesn't struggle for sales. Ain't broke, don't fix it.
    2. It would directly threaten sales of the Tundra. Many upsized out of Tacomas to get that V8 rumble and the better towing. Many would have settled for the lower payload if they could have the V8.
    3. Fuel economy. This one hits on two fronts. First, the regulations for MPG requirements are tied to wheelbase. That's why small trucks vanished. Essentially, if you have the wheel base of a Honda accord, you have to have the MPGs of a Honda Accord. Trucks got sized up as a result. The other front is that the huge swathes of granola munching manbuns who want the image of a truck also cry when you burn dead dinosaurs. Want proof? Go look at the sniveling and whining about the hybrid trucks not getting 30+ MPGs because the system was used to boost power without increasing displacement. Complaining that you got more power instead of more MPGs... one of the most un-American things I can think of. Sad.

Go find an old Dodge Dakota with the V8 Magnum. They were actually pretty reliable back then.

Didn't Toyota shoehorn the 5.7 into a bunch of smallish vehicles? Maybe on the Lexus side? I don't know, but I feel like I've heard that 100 times.
I dunno, I feel like a bigger part of why Toyota didn't do a lot of things in the N. American market had more to do with politics than regulations. Like when they paid NASA engineers to inspect their "gas pedal problem" and came up with nothing, but the DOJ still made them pay a $1.2 billion fine. For something that wasn't wrong.
You'll never convince me that they couldn't have invested in more half ton options with more frequent updates, a full HD Tundra line, including a Hino diesel option, a Taco V8, etc, and took over a huge market share from the big 3.
My guess is they didn't bother because they knew they wouldn't be allowed.
So they settled for Taco sales and 100k Tundras that they invested nothing in.
It's a shame, a lot got left on the table.

They did run the 5.7 in a top end performance Lexus, but it's a small sales volume vehicle so it doesn't drag down the brand MPG, and that is what the regs require. As a brand you have to have X number of MPGs average for vehicles sold or you have to buy credits from somebody that already does it and has extra "green goodwill" to spare, like Tesla. That's how Dodge operates. They buy the credits/pay the penalty. Toyota refuses to go that route. That's why they are not offering V8s in the trucks anymore. As for the diesels, they openly state that the onerous regulations of the US are why they won't even consider developing a diesel for The States. They're diesels are boring but never die, and our regs would kill that reliability. They are not willing to sacrifice the golden goose of reliability to have a bunch of entitled whiners here complaining about a diesel that isn't pushing a million HP and going a million miles like grandaddy's cummins used to do. The morons here (in the US) would push the big 3 loyalty button and scream that if it's not an American diesel it's trash.

Lots was left on the table, but only because they aren't allowed to use it properly. Thank California and the tree huggers. They did it.

    Do it. I won’t tell.

Moved the Keurig to the basement wet bar, and she bought this for the kitchen.
