Hey guys looking for some advice here. I am looking to order a 2016 Tundra SR5 double cab 5.7l 4wd longbed with tow package and trying to decide what options to order with it. I know i want the SR5 UPGRADE PACKAGE.

    Also i think i want:
Deck rail system- Is it worth it?
tow mirrors- are they worth if i only tow occasionally?
running boards- I really liked the running boards on the truck i test drove. Are the factory ones worth it or is there a cheaper and better aftermarket option out there?

Entune premium audio- actually not really sure i care about this but is it worth the cost?

Integrated trailer brake controller- get this or an aftermarket for cheaper?

    the 5.7l with flexfuel option???

heavy duty batter and alternator? did you guys get this?

lot of stuff to think about. Dont want to have regrets after the purchace so looking for help from you guys.

    thanks!

Deck rail system- Yes, I like but now useless with my Undercover Flex tonneau cover.
    Tow mirrors- Yes, Love mine.
Running boards- Yes, Tundra's, even stock are a little high. I'd go aftermarket. Cheaper and better ones out there.
    Entune- I like it.
Integrated brake controller- Yes, I will be buying this and adapting to my 2015.
5.7l- A must. Flex Fuel- Doesn't matter if you don't want to put a supercharger on it.
Battery and alternator- Not necessary unless your going to be putting subs or something else that needs a lot of power.

Tonneau cover maybe in the future but not necessarily very soon.

    No supercharger

No subs or anything needing lots more power. I do use a power inverter sometimes camping, jobsite or in the country but i have used it on my GMC with no problems. It is a Tripp Lite 2000 watt inverter.

About the tow mirrors...I assume they stick out farther. The ONLY thing i dont like is that they are not automatically retractable. So i may need to get out each time i pull into the garage and fold them in. The regular mirrors are small enough i would not need to do that.

Ford Super Duty has automatic folding mirrors why cant the Tundra?

Might as well go with line-x in the bed too.

Yes the tow mirrors stick out farther. I could see how that would be annoying to manually fold them in everyday but a double cab long bed is a long truck. You sure it would even fit length wise? My garage is about 3" too short to fit my crewmax.

From what I understand, tow mirrors with the retractable feature are about twice the price of the regular ones.

I will have an extra 5' of space to spare when the truck is parked in my garage. Garage is directly in front of my custom cabinetshop. If i did not use my shop for wood it has enough room to park 8 more vehicles.

On a quote they gave me, it lists the tow mirrors at an extra cost of only $50. Hope that is not a misprint.

Man, sounds like the garage I need. For an extra $50, its a no brainer. Get the tow mirrors.

I have tow/haul package which comes with the tow mirrors, hitch, higher rated rear springs, and 4.3:1 rear diff. Glad my Tundra has it all. If my tow mirrors are out too far, I just roll down the windows and fold them in. Takes a couple of seconds. I've had several people ask me about my tow mirrors and where to get them. Factory or online of course

    All of them.

ok. flippant answer aside. It depends on your intended usage. I'd go for the tow package, integrated brake controller, tow mirrors and deck rails at a minimum, but then I tow/haul quite a bit.

Toyota factory nav is actually one of the better systems out there, so it would be on my list.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
Deck rail system: Yes if you use the bed a lot for hauling stuff like moving furniture, wood for projects or other larger items in the bed. Good spot for bike mounts too.

Tow mirrors: I don't like the look as much as the sport ones. They do stick out further. You can get power gold standard with limited and platinum.

Running boards: Depends on what you like and what your going to use them for. There are so many choices out there from steps to running boards to rock sliders that can be cheaper or more expensive than stock.

Entune premium audio: Depends if you are ok with a little less quality sound and features. Or if you plan to upgrade to aftermarket speakers anyway. Depending on price I would prob skip it.

Integrated trailer brake controller: if you plan to tow go with the stock one. Aftermarket may be a little cheaper but you will have to figure out a mount.

    5.7l: absolutely. Love the power.

Flex fuel: No you won't use it and it's not recommended to use E85 in it from other tundra owners. If there is a price break for flex then go for it but don't pay to have the option.

Heavy duty batter and alternator: Not needed unless you add enough electrical add on accessories like winch, off-road lights, etc.

If you can get a non flex fuel, try to do that. There are quite a few guys out there having problems with them. I dont, thank goodness, but if it's possible to get one without, do it. Another thing that I think is weird, some people got tow hitches that were not class 5. So before you take ownership, make sure it is. I'd get the upgraded alternator and so on, just in case you ever need it and definitely the brake controller. Hell, I'd get everything you listed as long as the side steps were black.

I agree. The alternator/winter upgrade is only $50/$100 or so I think. Why not get it? I know it's not much dollar wise compared to swap one out should you change your mind later. Tow Haul option will not give you the best mpg due to the 4.3 diffs. But is excellent for 4X4.

Re: the brake controller - I'm not sure if they have it sorted out now or not, but when I bought mine in May of this year, they were not offering them. The dealership said they had yet to see a 2015 with the factory controller.
But, if it's an option now, I would go for it if you plan to tow anything with trailer brakes.

Toyota claims they have it worked out and ready for 2016s. Sure wish there was an option for 2nd gens. I like my controller and tried mounting it where it would look professional or classy, but nothing beats the stock look.

No Double cab has the 3 piece rear window with horizontal slider. You might get the powered slider.
    Congrats!

Well guys i just got back from putting a deposit down on a 2016 with the 36 gallon tank.
I did not order the entune premium with navagation, or the step bars, or the spray in bedliner.

However...there will be a 2-3 week period where i can make changes to my order. It is projected to be in production in 1-2 months.

Here is a silly question..will you guys make fun of me if i do not upgrade from the styled steel wheels?
Do you think it is stupid to not upgrade to the alloy wheels? I think it is an $800 upgrade or so.

    Anyhow i am pretty excited.
