I have a 2001 Tundra 4x4 with 183,000 miles. Runs great. about a month ago I started noticing occasional grinding or a stutter on hard accelerations. Changed rear diff oil with Mobil 1 75W90, trans fluid, new carrier bearing, and greased everything about 2 months ago.

    Thanks for your help!

    Surprised @shifty` hasn't been here.
If you have a limited slip this isn't the oil you want to be running and may be causing your issue. Do you know if you have a LSD or not? Should be a small sticker next to fill plug if it's still there.

Have you lubricated all your driveshaft grease zerks?

I don’t always want to be the guy responding ;)

Big question for me was: Did OP use 75w90 synthetic? If they have LSD rear end that’s a huge no-no, and OP should read the megathread after getting that shit outta there STAT and replacing with appropriate fluid.

But I’d also be rechecking the fluid levels in case he didn’t use a fresh crush washer and/or tighten the drain enough and now they’re low on fluid, i.e. leaked out over the 1st month after service, leading to the last month of poor behavior. If low, that rear end may be shot.

But what’s described doesn’t sound like classic chatter from wrong fluid which is why I lean more towards fluid level probs. Chatter is more common turning at slow speeds, like backing out of a parking space or turning right from a dead stop in a parking lot at low speed.
