Fuuuck truck prices are insane. $55k for a compact pickup? What are these manufacturers smoking?

I've been looking at used Colorados and Canyons just to keep it cheap.

Add $10k over MSRP due to intentionally limited quantities. I know because I asked.

Want a Bronco Raptor? $108k asking price. That’s $10k above the $98k MSRP price tag.

They should have an overlanding edition because with the price you pay, you’ll be living in it.

The crazy thing is that people are paying these prices. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to keep charging this much. Ever since COVID people have gone wild with spending. It sounds like used car prices are finally coming down a little though.

Those aren’t the real prices. The govt says it’s a lot cheaper than what you’re seeing. Who you gonna believe, your eyes or the govt?

They spend it because it's fake money. It's so absurd and it's on loan, so it's almost like it's not real.

Well hey before this goes off the rails in addition to being off-topic ... :D

Got some more work done on the shell just now. The 3/16" T bulb seal was flat and blown out all over the radius of the rear window. I replaced it. Which meant I had to straighten out a lot of metal around the edges that was bent to hell from who-knows-what... This was really not easy, although I'm guessing it would've been if the track the T fits into wasn't so jacked up. It gets hardest when you're 3/4 done and hit that 2nd dogleg...

    upload_2023-11-17_19-56-3.png
Then I replaced the door flap seal that was dry-rotted and shrunk up, with a new, supple single-flap 3/16 T flap seal.

    upload_2023-11-17_19-58-46.png
It closes like a totally different door now. No rattles, seals tight at the bottom, no more metal on metal slap (look at that last pic, the verticals of the frame were metal-on-metal due to blown bulb). I need to water-check it now though, it seems like it sits a little proud, but it could just be it was sitting too inset prior. If anyone needs sources/part numbers for any of these seals, I can link you up. The important thing is to search for "T 3/16" and you'll get what's right for most Leers, if not many others.

Next up: Replace window screens.... I really wish you could pop the f'n glass out of the side windows, at least one of them, to make it easier to deep clean the frames.

Oh, and I almost forgot. I mentioned earlier I noticed the damn shell was squeaking. And I knew it was the cab-side window, which wasn't sliding worth a shit. So I popped it out, scrubbed the channels and sprayed them out. Dried it all with a blowdryer, scrubbed the peripheral where it sits in the window channel. I think I may need to felt or dry-lube the pivot channel that window sits in to deal with future movement, and probably need to replace the perimeter seal on that window's frame also. Cleaned the glass, reinstalled. It doesn't seem to squeak as much now, but I'm knocking on wood until I get a few weeks of driving in.

I got new seals for my windoors to do. I hope I remember these posts in case I get confused on how to apply them.

I never thought to do this to mine. It has no seal and would definitely benefit from it. Nice call. I may have something laying around that will work.

This is essentially what I ordered: https://truckoutfittersplus.com/tru...als/topper-door-perimeter-seal-t-channel.html

This is who I actually bought from: https://www.ebay.com/itm/321858875932

For the flap at the bottom of the door, this is what my Leer had: https://truckoutfittersplus.com/tru...pper-door-seal-double-leaf-with-offset-t.html

Since I was already ordering from the dude two links up I got this from him: https://www.ebay.com/itm/325369235960

I think I'd have preferred the offset double-leaf seal (there's another double leaf that's T'd in the middle that wouldn't work so well), but ... the single leaf appears to be working. Will see how long it lasts before warping.

Wish I had good advice to give you on install. If your rear window frame is less bent up - seriously, I dunno wtf previous owners did with this shell, some metal parts are absolutely mangled, but I'm bending it all back one part at a time.

    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
That's fkn absurd, and that (and their prices in general) are going to come back to bite them.
Over engineering and pricing your shit out of the reach of too many of your customers isn't a sustainable model...

I think the new manufacturer mentality is produce 1/5 as many vehicles as they used to and charge 5x the profit margin for markup because 20% of the population can afford it.

Screw the remaining 80%, you’re on your own.
