Having a great bourbon with a great meal is always a plus! I expect the restaurants and bars to sell over retail to make a profit. The secondary market is really a shame. Secondary market will continue as long as people are willing to pay for it or if they can’t get it for retail.

I did try the new Shenks. It’s very good! I did get the opportunity to buy this years Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse. It’s gone up another $50 from last years price.

I’ve read nothing but great things about that new single Rick. I’ll be curious what you think of it.

The Antique is going way up in price everywhere. 3 years ago I could get it several times a year for $39 - now it's held back at my preferred store for their annual bourbon auction and goes for $350+. It's insane.

Those are good prices indeed. I've still never had the CYPB. :(

I tried to order the CYPB first but they didn’t have it in stock. So I ordered the Single barrel instead. They both can very since they come from different barrels.

Yeah secondary market is crazy when you realize that bars are cheaper overall. But like you said, if people out there are willing to pay for it, it will continue to stick around. Enjoy that Russel's single rickhouse. I too have heard nothing but great things.

So.. I've tasted two previous acts but never went out of my way to buy this. Previous tastings were mixed in with other drinks, so I dont think I had a good opportunity to experience this.

This honestly may he the best rye whiskey I've ever had... layers upon layers, but a very nice holiday spice on the pallet. Really smooth finish. Glad I ignored my sourced whiskey snobbery today.

Went to the liquor store to pick up some bitters/cherries and struck up a conversation with the owner. He asked what I was looking for and I told him Eagle Rare, but it looked like they just ran out. He told me to give him a minute and got me one from the back  definitely thankful for him this year lol

Unrelated question, which I'm sure has been answered, but I'm looking to get a set of glasses soon. Judging from 90% of the photos, it seems glencairns are the popular choice these days. Does it make a difference over an old fashioned type glass?

Glencairns are shaped to provide an optimal snifter and tasting experience. Nothing wrong with a standard glass, but you won't get a full nose with minimal alcohol pu ch like you do with a Glencairn.

As mentioned shape of the glass makes a big impact on taste. I prefer glasses with the shape but a little less dainty than glencairns. Just my opinion.

Not just taste but the shape helps alcohol vapors quickly escape so that you can enjoy the whisk(e)y. I always let a pour sit for 5+ minutes to help with this as well.

Man.. I've never been offended by the word "dainty" until now.. ;)
