Yeah most magazines do not test in Sport modes and just use normal acceleration numbers the Hybrid is noticeably faster.

Don't really care about racing anybody...really just don't want it to labor when towing 6000 lbs or less on highway when trying to pass or hilly area. I'm in MN so no mountains here.

UPDATE: Came home the same distance 85-90, so flying.....picked up .5 MPG. So trip home at a faster speed got better milage? Figure that one out because if anything, the trip down should of been better as it was south bound.

    Love this truck!!

Oh really???? I hate the thought of using premium but depending on the power gains that sounds tempting... Where did you find this out?

I am confused by this post. Are you comparing your friends different gen? All 3rd gens are not N/A.

Does anyone know how the hybrid power is added to the power curve of the V6? I am wondering if the power of the hybrid motor shows up right off the bat and continues as the V6 is heading to the peak torque. Is it a smooth addition to the power band or more of a kick at the start and tappers off as the engine rpm picks up? Are there any graphs out there showing this?

It seems to come at the start continues at different levels. I can even manipulate the gas pedal a bit and let it run on hybrid only for a few miles at a time between 30-65 mpg on fairly flat roads. The thing I really appreciate is how smooth the transition is between hybrid and gas. When the gas kicks back on, it is basically not noticeable. It is a great system.

Thanks @ryanwgregg , that's exactly what I was looking for. So it looks like there is a bump in power right off the bat and it continues all the way to peak. The big jump in torque at startup must be a fun kick in the pants!

This chart would represent full acceleration. but I like what @40man was saying about being able to get it to kick in by adjusting the throttle.

I might have to go and give one a try!

Does the hybrid have regenerative braking to charge the battery and slow the truck down?

That's a helpful video. I am curious to know if the regen works while in tow mode with a trailer attached. Like some other systems that turn off when in tow mode, I would like to know if this still functions. I know that using regen while towing could cause other issues if the trailer brakes are not being applied at the same time. So the logic needed to automatically apply the trailer brakes when regen kicks in would need to be coded into the software. This might be a stretch to expect that to be a functioning feature!

Well then the Hybrid may not achieve anything for you. All the towing tests I have seen show it shutting off the hybrid motor above 55mph but maybe not.

I can also almost guarantee there will be excess power from the non-hybrid unless you are towing 12000 lbs up a 7% grade.

My mistake, for some always call 3rd gen non hybrids as n/a. His work truck is a 2022 sr5 double cab

Still thinking on it...but leaning towards standard engine. Non-hybrid and not the TRD upgrade with premium gas for 2024. I think the standard engine will tow just fine with 6000lb trailer from what I've read here.

It won't be as pleasant to drive as the hybrid, less responsive

Our gas only Tundra does a great job towing our Airstream. I can only imagine how much better the hybrid would be.

Regen braking would also be a great addition from the hybrid for slowing the combo.

If I had to do it again, I would get the hybrid. The up-charge is not huge but you get the added towing benefits.

I got regular iforce. I don't tow, just regular city and highway driving.

Just read the long long thread about throttle lag and hesitation that we have here. Regular non hybrid is just not as enjoyable to drive as more powerful hybrid. And I'm not talking about racing or driving fast, just regular driving and expecting regular response from your truck...

Lots of people here wished they bought hybrid, but I haven't yet seen anyone who regret hybrid and wanted regular instead.

Towing is MUCH more pleasant with the extra power. I recommend the hybrid!

I got a hybrid Platty back in May and have had no complaints. Just put the JB4 tuner on it and sheesh! Makes the car way more enjoyable to drive. It’s almost a must.

I think it only makes sense for folks who do a lot of towing or a lot of stop-and-go city driving.

Most of my driving is highway and I don't plan on towing anything heavy.

For me, it was a $3k-$4k "upgrade" that I didn't need. It gets the same mpg, you lose storage space under the seats, and it's one extra system to eventually fail.

I'm averaging 18.5mpg each tank and I'm seeing 22-23mpg highway with my non-hybrid Tundra. Never have I ever said "I wish I spent $4k more to get the hybrid version".

I got hybrid after test driving non hybrid. I don't tow much with it. But, do enjoy driving truck. I like averages of 21 mpg on a whole tank in town and little highway. Longer trips this time of year get tank average around 23-24 on days that I'm not in a hurry.

The hybrid takes too much and gives too little, My advice for toyota engineers, put the dated battery in the wasted space in the bed fenders and add a 2k plus power inverter for the bed outlet.

the 2025 ramcharger is a interesting concept (i think its a rehash of an old system) where its pure electric motor driven (1 front and 1 back) but the batteries are charged by small v6. its not really hybrid since the gas motor can NEVER drive the vehicle. the range is like 700 miles. so you get the power and torque of electric but the range of a gas engine.

ugh what, ive seen plenty of ppl complain about their hybrid and question the purchase, run the #'s it doesnt make sense, and no stop saying it helps with towing, thats like you telling ppl straight up the normal truck cant tow the weight listed, yet yall hybrid bandwagon ppl fail to realize you have lower capacity vs non hybrid lol

i for one glad i did not

i do recall my camry hybrid struggles to use hybrid battery during the cold months, and the hot months

get the powerboost if you absoultely want/need power in form of battery packs, this system was joint developed by ford and toyota, ford used lithion batteries can run a 7.2kwh generator, toyota decided to use nimh and run a 400 watt inverter lol

Kinda regret not getting the hybrid only because it’s over 6k lbs and can be a tax write off.

And less annual registration cost depending where you live.
